Hernandez (shoulder) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
EDGE Analysis
The young left-hander has been sidelined by the sprained SC joint in his shoulder since late August, but he'll rejoin the Red Sox with just over a week left in the season. Hernandez has appeared in only three games this season and has yet to allow a run with seven strikeouts and three walks over 4.2 innings.

Hernandez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and could return to game action in the near future, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez landed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained SC joint Aug. 31, but he could return to the major-league bullpen soon if he feels good following his throwing session. The southpaw pitched effectively over a limited sample prior to his injury, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings with a 1.29 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB across three appearances.

Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke believes Hernandez (shoulder) will return to pitch this season, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox placed Hernandez on the injured list Aug. 31 with a sprained SC joint. "I think he'll pitch again this season," Roenicke said Saturday. "We need to be smart about it. And if we don't think he's ready and he's right, we won't do it." Hernandez was scheduled for a bullpen session Saturday after beginning a throwing program earlier in the week. The Red Sox will evaluate the results of the bullpen session and make a decision about Hernandez going forward.

Hernandez (shoulder) resumed playing catch last week and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday in Philadelphia, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez was diagnosed with a sprained SC joint in his left shoulder and was subsequently placed on the injured list Aug. 31, but the Red Sox never seemed to fear he would be in store for a lengthy absence. However, Hernandez had seen his velocity decline a couple ticks in his final relief appearance prior to being shut down, so the Red Sox may need to see him make progress on that front in his subsequent throwing sessions before the team considers activating him. Boston had planned to give Hernandez a look as a starter at some point in the second half of the season, but the injury may put those plans on hold until 2021.

Hernandez landed on the injured list with a sprained SC joint in his left shoulder Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox do not believe the issue will be a long-term problem for Hernandez, but he'll sit for at least 10 days. His expected return date is not yet clear. The young southpaw has struck out seven batters in 4.2 scoreless innings so far this season.

Hernandez struck out two over two scoreless innings and collected a hold Tuesday in the Red Sox's 9-7 win over the Blue Jays. He scattered two hits and a walk in the appearance.
EDGE Analysis
Rather than saving Hernandez until Wednesday to work as a piggyback pitcher behind starter Colten Brewer, the Red Sox elected to have him cover a couple innings in middle relief Tuesday. The hard-throwing lefty was able to keep his spotless ERA intact, pumping in 23 of his 36 pitches for strikes while stranding all three of the baserunners he put on. Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke suggested after Tuesday's win that Kyle Hart -- who was tagged for six runs in 3.1 innings before departing -- may not be guaranteed any future starts, which could pave the way for Hernandez to enter the rotation as soon as next week. Since Hernandez has maxed out at 40 pitches over his two long-relief outings this season, he would likely have a workload restriction if the Red Sox decide to give him a look as a starter.

Hernandez (1-0) pitched two innings while allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three as he recorded his first major-league win Friday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez entered the game in the fifth after Colton Brewer opened up with four shutout innings. The 24-year-old lefty didn't face much pressure in his 2020 debut as the Red Sox were already up 6-0 by the time Hernandez stepped on the mound. Regardless, the tandem of Hernandez and Brewer was pretty effective and could force manager Ron Roenicke to try it out at least once more next week against the Blue Jays.

Manager Ron Roenicke announced Thursday that Hernandez will likely pitch in Friday's game against the Orioles, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colten Brewer will get the ball to open against the Orioles, with Hernandez expected to make his season debut at some point later in the game. Hernandez was activated from the injured list earlier Thursday after being cleared to return following a positive COVID-19 test.

Hernandez (not injury related) was activated from the injured list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez has been cleared to rejoin the Red Sox after a positive COVID-19 test sidelined him to start the season. The lefty is initially expected to work in a long-relief role, though the plan is to eventually move him into the rotation. He made 29 appearances for Boston in 2019 and posted a 4.45 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 57:26 K:BB in 30.1 innings. Christian Arroyo was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Hernandez (COVID-19 injured list) covered 2.1 innings in a simulated game Sunday at the Red Sox's alternate training site in Pawtucket, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Hernandez is expected to initially work in long relief when he's reinstated from the IL, the Red Sox have been having him pitch once every five days in Pawtucket to prepare for an eventual move into the rotation. Hernandez's erratic control and lack of a deep arsenal probably makes him a better fit as a closer or multi-inning stopper out of the bullpen in the long run, but the 23-year-old lefty would still qualify as a higher-upside alternative than most of the unproven back-end starters the Red Sox have been cycling in and out of the rotation this season. He'll be one of the few Boston pitchers worth keeping an eye on when the team activates him.
