Descalso picked up a start at second base in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Mets and finished 2-for-4 with a double.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso had been acting as the Diamondbacks' primary third baseman for the past month and a half while Jake Lamb (shoulder, elbow) was on the disabled list, but the 31-year-old will no longer have a path to consistent at-bats at that position following Lamb's activation Friday. Fortunately for Descalso, he offers capable defense at every infield spot in addition to the corner outfield, affording multiple avenues for him to stick in the Arizona lineup. With Descalso swinging one of the hotter bats for a Diamondbacks offense that has sputtered of late, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo more or less acknowledged Friday that he would continue to find ways to keep the veteran in the starting nine on a regular basis, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Everyday middle infielders Ketel Marte (.591 OPS) and Nick Ahmed (.682 OPS) would seem most in danger of losing starts to Descalso, assuming the pectoral injury right fielder Steven Souza aggravated Friday doesn't create an opening at that position.

Descalso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a pair of strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso's first-inning blast was the only hit Arizona mustered off starter Brandon Woodruff, and the rest of the lineup didn't have much luck off the Milwaukee bullpen either. The 31-year-old is already halfway toward matching last year's career-high 10 home runs, and is sporting an .877 slugging percentage that would easily top his previous personal-best of .773.

Descalso went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI single in the Diamondbacks' 2-1 triumph over the Brewers on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso's two-out base hit in the bottom of the eighth scored the go-ahead run and gave Arizona closer Brad Boxberger all the breathing room he would need to seal the victory an inning later. With the Diamondbacks announcing Tuesday that A.J. Pollock (thumb) would be sidelined for the next 4-to-8 weeks, Jake Lamb (shoulder, elbow) still on the disabled list and Paul Goldschmidt and Steven Souza mired in deep slumps, it's not entirely unreasonable to label Descalso as the Diamondbacks' second-best hitter at the moment beyond David Peralta. Descalso has helped pick up the slack while Goldschmidt and Souza have languished by posting a career-best .861 OPS through 131 plate appearances, which has been fueled by 15 extra-base hits.

Descalso went 2-for-5 with a double Thursday in the Diamondbacks' 2-1 loss to the Nationals in 11 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso has been a surprising power source for the Diamondbacks of late, recording an extra-base hit in each of the club's last five games. The 31-year-old will lose out on an everyday role at the hot corner once Jake Lamb (shoulder, elbow) is likely activated from the 10-day disabled list later this month, but Descalso's defensive versatility and strong form at the plate this season could allow him to pick up at-bats elsewhere. Second base would seem to represent Descalso's easiest path to playing time, as the primary starter at that position, Ketel Marte, owns a mediocre .580 OPS for the campaign.

Descalso is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso has played well lately, having gone 7-for-17 with four extra-base hits over the Diamondbacks' last seven games. He'll head to the bench Tuesday while Chris Owings starts at third base.

Descalso went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and one run scored Sunday in the 3-1 win over the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso continues to turn it around at the plate after another multi-hit performance. He's slashing .253/.359/.482 with three home runs and 15 RBI through 32 games.

Descalso is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso has three multi-hit games in his past four starts, but he'll head to the bench for a night off to avoid a lefty-on-lefty matchup with Dodgers' starter Hyun-Jin Ryu. Deven Marrero will man the hot corner in his stead.

Descalso is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo is stocking his lineup with right-handed bats to counter Nationals lefty Gio Gonzalez, so Descalso, Jarrod Dyson and Alex Avila will all retreat to the bench for the series finale. Descalso could find himself on the bench again Monday versus the Dodgers if Los Angeles activates southpaw Rich Hill (finger) from the disabled list to start that contest.

Descalso went 1-for-2 with a double and walk and drove in two runs in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 win over the Nationals on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso tied the game in the fourth inning with an RBI double and plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly. The 31-year-old has now put together a five-game on-base streak and will continue to fill the strong side of a platoon at the hot corner with Deven Marrero until Jake Lamb (shoulder) is activated from the 10-day disabled list at some point in May.

Descalso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in the Diamondbacks' 8-4 win over the Phillies on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
With the Diamondbacks facing left-handed starting pitchers in three of their previous four games, Descalso had been ceding third base to Deven Marrero more often, but the 31-year-old make a big impact upon returning to the lineup Tuesday. The eighth-inning blast gave the Diamondbacks a four-run cushion heading into the final frame, paving the way for Arizona to improve its record to a National League-best 16-6. With Jake Lamb having recently experienced renewed tendinitis in his elbow, it's likely his activation from the disabled list will be delayed until at least early May, giving Descalso a little more longevity in his role as a strong-side platoon bat at the hot corner.
