The Padres have exercised their $4 million club option on Stammen for the 2022 season, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The righty bounced back from a rough 2020 to post a 3.06 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 88.1 innings in 2021. Stammen's versatility out of the bullpen and availability for spot starts makes him a huge asset, even as he heads into his age-38 season.

Stammen (illness) was activated from the COVID-19-related injured list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen experienced flu-like symptoms but apparently did not test positive for COVID-19. As a result, he was only forced to miss two games. He should be available to pitch in Thursday's contest if needed, as he has not taken the mound since Sept. 24.

Stammen's placement on the COVID-19-related injured list Tuesday was the result of him experiencing flu-like symptoms, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since Stammen hasn't tested positive for the virus and was merely placed on the IL as a precaution, he'll be eligible to rejoin the Padres before the season ends Sunday. In 65 appearances (four starts) spanning 85.2 innings this season, Stammen has gone 6-3 with seven holds, one save and a 2.94 ERA.

Stammen was placed on the injured list Tuesday without an injury designation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The lack of an injury designation often indicates the move is related to the COVID-19 protocols, which would allow Stammen to be activated as soon as he clears said protocols. Regardless, the veteran right-hander is now sidelined for the immediate future.

Stammen hurled 3.2 scoreless innings in relief Sunday against St. Louis, allowing two hits and striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen pitched way earlier than he would've expected it since Jake Arrieta (groin) only recorded one out before departing the contest. This was a sort of bounce-back effort for the 37-year-old, as he had given up runs in two of his previous three outings while pitching at least three frames for the first time since mid-April. Stammen owns a 2.89 ERA through seven appearances (9.1 innings) this month.

Stammen (6-3) allowed one hit and one walk over one inning to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen relieved Chris Paddack with two outs in the fifth inning. He inherited runners on first and second, and a wild pitch allowed the runner from second base to score. However, he didn't surrender any runs of his own and he maintained the lead en route to earn the win. The 37-year-old has fired nine scoreless innings over his last six appearances. He continues to serve as a bulk-innings reliever while receiving occasional starts.

Stammen pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out one in the loss to the Phillies on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen started another bullpen game, pitching the first two innings Sunday. It was his third appearance in a row without allowing a run and 11th out of his last 14. The 37-year-old has a 3.07 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 68 punchouts in 70.1 innings this season.

Stammen will serve as the opener for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen has filled the same role on three previous occasions this season, making his first starts since 2010. He hasn't recorded more than six outs in an appearance since mid-April, so don't expect him to pitch too deep into Sunday's game. The Padres have yet to announce anyone as the bulk reliever following Stammen, so it's likely this will be a bullpen game.

Stammen pitched two scoreless innings on two hits while striking out one in the win over the Diamondbacks. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen started another bullpen game Sunday, allowing just two singles over two innings. It was a much needed performance for Stammen after giving up seven earned runs over his previous 3.1 innings. The 37-year-old has a 3.21 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 67 strikeouts over 67.1 innings this season.

Stammen is slated to start a bullpen game Sunday versus the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Stammen will pick up his second start in less than a week while the Padres attempt to get by with bullpen days for the fifth spot in the rotation until Chris Paddack (oblique) is cleared to return from the injured list. In his previous turn as an opener Tuesday against the Marlins, Stammen covered two innings and gave up four runs on six hits. Even if he fares better Sunday, the Padres likely won't let Stammen work beyond three innings.
