Craig Gentry will be sidelined for a few days after an MRI revealed a lower back strain. The A's are going to be extra cautious with their new outfielder, with manager Bob Melvin saying he didn't have a timetable besides "into next week some." Gentry's drive from Texas to Arizona is believed to be at the root of the problem, which he aggravated during batting practice. The injury shouldn't have an impact on his readiness for spring games.

Craig Gentry will get a precautionary MRI due to tightness in his back. A's manager Bob Melvin thinks Gentry's back tightened up on his drive to Arizona. There's little concern, but the team wants to get him checked out just to be safe. Gentry is expected to see plenty of playing time against left-handers this season.

Athletics avoided arbitration with OF Craig Gentry by agreeing to a one-year, $1.145 million contract. It was his first year of arbitration eligibility. Picked up via trade from the Rangers this winter, Gentry batted .288 with a .365 on-base percentage last season in Texas.

Athletics acquired OF Craig Gentry and RHP Josh Lindblom from the Rangers for OF Michael Choice and INF Chris Bostick. Gentry has been a valuable part-time player over the past three seasons, hitting .288 with a .365 on-base percentage while providing excellent defense and speed on the basepaths. He'll likely find himself in a platoon role in Oakland and could take over the center field job after Coco Crisp's contract expires.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Athletics will acquire outfielder Craig Gentry in a deal with the Rangers. There are other pieces involved in the deal, but Passan hears that prospect outfielder Michael Choice is one of the players headed back to Texas. Gentry, 30, is a .280/.355/.366 career hitter and provides quality defense and speed. He'll serve as a platoon player and insurance for the injury-prone Coco Crisp in center field.

Craig Gentry went 2-for-4 with a bunt RBI single, a stolen base, and a run scored in a 7-4 win over the Angels on Saturday. Gentry turned an ankle on the bunt hit, but he was able to stay in the ballgame. With seven stolen bases in his last nine games, the 29-year-old has been an excellent late source of speed in fantasy leagues. As for the Rangers, they'll go into the final day of the regular season still alive in the AL Wild Card race.

Craig Gentry had four hits and three steals Thursday versus the Rays. Gentry had gone a month without attempting a steal before running wild tonight. He's 17-for-20 stealing bases on the season. He also upped his average from .246 to .259 tonight.

Craig Gentry went 1-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored in the Rangers' 5-4, walk-off win over the Astros on Wednesday. Gentry got a rare start in left field, just the 10th time he's started there this season, and he responded by accounting for three of the Rangers' five runs. Gentry homered in the third inning, his second of the year, before scoring again in the fifth and seventh innings. He's seen Leonys Martin take over as the everyday center fielder so his value is next-to-nothing outside of AL-only leagues, but the speed still plays on occasion.

Rangers activated OF Craig Gentry from the 15-day disabled list. Gentry was on the shelf for a month with a fractured left hand, but he's ready to give it a go now. He'll see some time in center field against lefties but not as much as he did earlier this season with Leonys Martin establishing himself.

Craig Gentry (hand) will be activated from the disabled list Friday. Gentry, out since June 20 with a fracture in his left hand, is 3-for-13 (.231) with a double and an RBI over four rehab games with Double-A Frisco. Leonys Martin has emerged as the everyday center fielder, so Gentry will return as a backup outfielder.
