Spangenberg is back in the lineup on Monday playing third base, Bill Center of Padres.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg missed a few days dealing with a toe blister, but it seems he's healed and ready to continue his competition for a starting infield spot. He'll slot into third base in his first game back, as manager Andy Green is looking to move Yangervis Solarte to second base, flexing the Ryan Schimpf vs Spangenberg position battle to third base. Either way, with Schimpf sidelined with an oblique injury, Spangenberg will have plenty of opportunities to win the starting job.

Manager Andy Green is considering moving Yangervis Solarte to second base and having Spangenberg (toe) compete with Ryan Schimpf for the starting third base job, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
An interesting development, considering the effect it could have on the players' values. Solarte would obviously see a boost if he were to regain second base eligibility. As for Spangenberg, the only think affecting his value this season would be whether or not he can win a starting job out of camp, because he should still retain second base eligibility in most formats. He is currently considered day-to-day with a toe blister, but the speedy infielder should be back in action early next week.

Spangenberg was scratched from Saturday's lineup with a blister under his left big toe, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg is competing for the second base job with Ryan Schimpf, who is battling an oblique injury, so this should open up some at-bats for Carlos Asuaje. It is unclear how long Spangenberg will be sidelined, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.

Spangenberg started Saturday's spring training matchup with the Mariners and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.
EDGE Analysis
This was Spangenberg's first game action since tearing his quad last April. The speedy second baseman looked like he didn't skip a beat, stealing a base and looking smooth on defense. He will be competing with Ryan Schimpf for the starting job at the keystone this spring. Both players couldn't be more different; Spangenberg provides better contact, speed and defense while the latter is a pure power option. The job will ultimately be decided based off their performance this spring and what skills the Padres want their starting second baseman to have.

Spangenberg will compete for the starting second base job this spring, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg missed the majority of the 2016 season after suffering a torn quad last summer. While he was out, Ryan Schimpf surfaced out of nowhere and hit 20 home runs in his stead. Despite Spangenberg's first-round pedigree, the Padres will be forced to give Schimpf a chance in spring to prove that last season wasn't a fluke. Whoever wins the job will have deep league value for completely different reasons. Schimpf would be the power asset and Spangenberg would have more value in the speed department.

Spangenberg (quadriceps) is back to 100 percent healthy, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg has progressed well from the torn quad that he suffered in mid-July. He has elected to forego winter ball, but will be ready for the start of spring training. The 2011 first-round pick will likely open the year as a utility bench bat for the Padres, but is worth keeping an eye on as he possess the speed to make a fantasy impact if he is able to work his way into a regular role.

Spangenberg (quad) will report to the team's spring training complex in Arizona in the near future, the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
If he's cleared to do so, Spangenberg is a candidate to play winter ball after his quad injury limited him to just 14 games for the Padres in 2016. Presumably, Spangenberg will be in the mix for a starting job at second base this spring as part of a competition with Ryan Schimpf and Carlos Asuaje.

Spangenberg (quad) is slated to begin running next week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg continues to work back from the torn quad that's robbed him of nearly the entire season, and at this point it appears very unlikely that he'll be back on the field in 2016. The Padres are currently planning to send the infielder to instructional ball in October, and he could also participate in Winter league as a means of working back up to speed before next season.

Spangenberg (quadriceps) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres selected Brandon Morrow's contract on Saturday and needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, so they opted to move Spangenberg to the 60-day DL. He is currently recovering from a torn quadriceps that has sidelined him since the second week of the season.

Spangenberg (quad) says he has a torn quadriceps, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg failed to finish a running workout as he was rehabbing from a quad strain several weeks ago and it is now revealed that a muscle tear may have been the reason why. The 25-year-old figures to have a lengthy road of recovery ahead of him as he attempts to return from his quad tear.
