Ray will join High-A Brevard County this weekend, although he won't be immediately activated, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is the most advanced assignment of any player selected in this year's draft, and it fits the scouting report on Ray. He was perhaps the most advanced hitter in the class, with an almost even K:BB at Louisville and enough speed and power to contribute across the board. As Rosiak notes, Ray has essentially been off since June 12, so he will work himself into game shape and then slot in as the Manatees' starting center fielder. He will be just one level behind Brett Phillips and one level ahead of Trent Clark, the two most notable center fielders in the Brewers' farm system, so it will be interesting to see how the organizational depth chart shakes out in the coming years.

Ray officially signed a contract with the Brewers on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Although the Brewers declined to release the terms of Ray's contract, the Louisville outfielder reportedly signed for $4.125 million, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. The fifth overall selection in the first-year player draft earlier this month, Ray looks to be one of the top dynasty league targets in the class, as he boasts a profile that features both power and speed, and makes enough contact to maintain a stable batting average. The 21-year-old will likely start his professional career with the Brewers' rookie-level affiliate, but given his status as an advanced college bat, it wouldn't be a surprise if he was promoted to the High-A or even Double-A level by season's end.
