McHugh (elbow) threw a successful session of live batting practice Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's a major step in the right direction for McHugh, who has been out since experiencing discomfort in spring training. The next step appears to be a simulated game earlier this week, which should give trainers a better estimate as to when the righty will be able to begin a full-fledged rehab assignment. McHugh is looking to improve after posting a somewhat disappointing 4.34 ERA and 1.41 WHIP last season.

McHugh (elbow) will head to Florida this week to face live hitters, Mark Eisenhauer of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will essentially be spring training for McHugh, who experienced elbow discomfort early in training camp. If his initial results in Florida are positive, the right-handed McHugh will graduate to a more extensive rehabilitation assignment.

McHugh (elbow) could face hitters in live batting practice within the next week, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, and it seems like live BP could be the next step in his rehab process if all goes well in the bullpen. This would be a big step in McHugh's recovery, as it would potentially help him return before the All-Star break if all goes as planned.

McHugh was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite throwing off a mound at the end of May, McHugh still remains without a timetable for return. This made him an easy choice to be moved from the 40-man roster to allow top prospect Francis Martes to head to Houston for his big-league debut. It's unlikely that McHugh will be able to make an impact with the Astros until the second half of the season, although more information on his recovery progress should come forth once he ramps up his throwing program.

McHugh (elbow) threw off a mound Thursday for the first time in his rehab, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
While this marks a significant step in McHugh's recovery process, he still remains without a timetable for return. A clearer return date should start to materialize once the next steps in his rehab process are determined.

McHugh (elbow) remains without a timetable for a return to throwing off a mound, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh's original timetable had him returning to action after about six weeks off, but that goal is a distant memory at this point. It's unclear what the next steps are while his rehab process is stagnating, but more information should be revealed once he's able to get back on track.

McHugh (elbow impingement) played catch Friday out to 45 feet, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. This was the first time McHugh had played catch since being diagnosed with an elbow injury in early April.
EDGE Analysis
Manager A.J. Hinch described McHugh's throwing session as part of "the infancy stage of a very long process." The plan will have McHugh throw every other day for the next week with future plans determined by how the pitcher's arm and body respond to the activity. Given the right-hander will need what amounts to a spring training-like ramp up when McHugh eventually pitches off a mound, his return to the Astros' rotation could push out to June.

McHugh (elbow impingement) will join his teammates on the trip to Anaheim for a weekend set against the Angels, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager A.J. Hinch said McHugh may start playing catch "pretty soon." While that sounds positive, it's been only four weeks since McHugh was diagnosed with a posterior impingement in the right elbow. At the time of his diagnosis, the plan was to shut him down for six weeks.

McHugh (elbow) said Tuesday that he might start playing catch this weekend, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The diagnosis of a posterior impingement in McHugh's elbow came with the recommendation of six weeks without any throwing activity. McHugh is nearing the end of that window, but he's still a ways away from game action, as he will need to gradually increase his throwing distance on flat ground before progressing to mound work and ultimately a rehab assignment.

McHugh was diagnosed with a posterior impingement in his right elbow Saturday and will be shut down for six weeks.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh will be re-evaluated at the end of the six week period, but a clean MRI Friday has alleviated any concerns of a UCL problem. Regardless, this is devastating news considering the right-hander was actually rehabbing from a shoulder injury when he first felt the discomfort. The Astros can only hope that the solution is non-surgical and that McHugh will be able to return sometime in early June, but they'll have to carry on with Mike Fiers and Joe Musgrove in the rotation for now.
