McHugh (fingernail) will "probably" pitch next Tuesday's series opener against the White Sox, according to manager A.J. Hinch, Hunter Atkins of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hinch was discussing immediate plans for McHugh and fellow injured starter Lance McCullers (arm), suggesting both could be headed to the bullpen. Hinch said both will pitch Tuesday, but added he hasn't decided who will start. It's uncertain if the manager is deciding between those two for the start, or if there will be another pitcher starting, or if it will be a bullpen start. We should learn more this weekend, when McHugh is expected to throw an inning of relief and McCullers throws a bullpen session Saturday.

McHugh (fingernail) threw a light bullpen session Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's surprising to see McHugh throw off a mound, no matter how lightly, as the Astros discussed having him play catch a few more days before hitting a mound. At any rate, it's a positive sign. The next available turn in the rotation comes due next week against the White Sox, however, he could pitch an inning of relief this weekend against Seattle.

McHugh (fingernail) will play catch for a couple of days before the Astros test him throwing off a mound, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh played catch Tuesday, his first bit of baseball activity since he exited last Friday's start prematurely because of a right middle fingernail avulsion. The right-hander said the session went well. The Astros are hopeful he can make a start next week against the White Sox.

McHugh (fingernail) was able to play catch Tuesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh reported that everything went well in his throwing session, which marked his first time playing catch since leaving Friday's game with a detached fingernail. The plan remains for the 30-year-old to rejoin the rotation next week against the White Sox.

McHugh (fingernail) plans to try throwing before Tuesday's series opener against the Angels, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh, who is being replaced by Brad Peacock during this current iteration of the rotation, will test out the detached fingernail on his right middle finger. If all goes well, McHugh is expected to rejoin the rotation next week at home against the White Sox.

McHugh (finger) will miss his scheduled Thursday start against the Angels, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh will be forced to miss his upcoming start after suffering a detached fingernail during his shortened Friday start against the A's. Brad Peacock will take the mound in his place Thursday, but the plan is for McHugh to rejoin the rotation against the White Sox on Sept. 20, assuming his finger is fully healed.

McHugh's status for Thursday's projected start is "up in the air" according to manager AJ Hinch, due to a detached fingernail that he suffered during Friday's outing, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh was forced to exit Friday's game after just three innings, and will throw Tuesday to determine whether he's able to make Thursday's start against the Angels. The right-hander should be considered day-to-day moving forward, and shouldn't miss more than one start if he's unable to pitch Thursday.

McHugh was forced to leave Friday's game against Oakland after just three innings and 50 pitches with a right middle fingernail avulsion, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
In English, that's a detached fingernail for McHugh. The fingernail is hugely important for proper grip and spin, so McHugh may have to skip a start to let it heal. Consider him day-to-day going forward. He had allowed three runs on four hits and a walk before the injury.

McHugh allowed a single unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters through 4.2 innings during Thursday's win over Texas. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
It was a little surprising that McHugh wasn't left in the game to face Adrian Beltre with runners on second and third in the top of the fifth inning. However, he was already at 91 pitches and had just allowed a double to Nomar Mazara. It was the first time he failed to pitch into the sixth frame since his return outing from the disabled list July 22, and the 30-year-old righty now sports a 3.25 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 for the campaign. Even with Thursday's brief outing in mind, McHugh remains a strong option in the majority of fantasy settings. He projects to face the Mariners at Safeco Field in his next start.

McHugh (2-2) allowed one run on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts through six innings to earn the win Friday over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh has a blistering 15:4 K:BB with a 1.53 ERA over 17.2 innings over his past three start. He has allowed more than two runs just twice in his seven starts this season. If McHugh can stay in this groove, he'll be a huge asset for the Astros rotation down the stretch.
