Hamels (1-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 6.1 innings against the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty turned in his second quality start of the year to drop his ERA to 4.41, but was still stuck with the loss nonetheless. Hamels yielded a home run in this one, continuing his struggles keeping the ball in the yard so far -- he's already allowed eight homers in just 34.2 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column next time out Monday in Cleveland.

Hamels (1-3) took the loss against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty threw 59 of 86 pitches for strikes, and for the first time this season did not give up a homer, but Hamels still came out on the wrong of the decision just the same. He'll take a 4.76 ERA into his next start Tuesday at home against the A's.

Hamels (1-2) came away with a no-decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Astros, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over six innings while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Two solo shots by George Springer were the only blemishes on Hamels' line for the night. The left-hander threw 68 of 106 pitches for strikes in his first quality start of the season, but home runs remain a problem -- he's now served up seven in 22 innings to begin the year, muting the positive impact of his 30:11 K:BB. Hamels will next take the mound Wednesday on the road against the Rays.

Opposing batters are hitting .636 against Hamels' four-seam fastball over the first three starts of the season, per BrooksBaseball.net.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels' four-seamer is down a few ticks on the gun, averaging 89.7 mph this season and is responsible for four of the five home runs he's allowed this season. In his three starts so far, two of the leadoff batters faced have homered. In the other start, he gave up a hard double to the second hitter. As Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports, MLB's Statcast system indicated all three hits came against four-seamers, up in the strike zone at 88.9 to 90.3 mph. It looks like we're witnessing a 34-year-old pitcher that needs to change how he attacks hitters -- from power lefty to crafty lefty. It worked well for him against Oakland last week, when his two-seamer had good movement. That same two-seamer didn't have the same sharpness Sunday, and he was tagged for two first-inning home runs and seven runs overall. He settled down over his final four frames, but for the third time this season, the left-hander failed to get through six innings.

Hamels (1-2) allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks across 5.1 innings while taking the loss Sunday against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels was touched up for four runs on a pair of home runs in the first inning and allowed another run before two more in the sixth chased him from the game. He threw an impressive 66 percent of his pitches for strikes but simply missed over the plate too often and was made to pay for his mistakes. Hamels whiffed 11 in his last start against the A's and owns a 12.9 K/9 through three turns, but his unsightly 6.19 ERA and 1.63 WHIP leave a lot to be desired.

Hamels has experienced decreased velocity on his four-seam fastball, which resulted in a different approach in Tuesday's 11-strikeout, one-run outing against the Athletics, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels committed to throwing more changeups and sliders Tuesday, generating 14 swing-and-misses on those offerings. "It's finally turning into something," Hamels said of the slider. "I just have to throw it. It's how I learned the changeup when I was young. You have to throw it and trust it." For the past few seasons, Hamels repertoire has been essentially a mix of four-seamers, cutters and curveballs, but he was a different pitcher Tuesday, a marked improved from Opening Day when his command wavered.

Hamels (1-1) struck out 11 over five innings while picking up the victory against the A's on Tuesday, allowing just four hits, one earned run and walking three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw looked dominate in Tuesday's outing logging double-digit strikeouts and he's now mowed down 18 batters through his first two starts to go along with his 3.38 ERA. He'll look to build on that in his next start, a home matchup with Toronto on Sunday.

Hamels, who stressed fastball command over his final two spring starts, struggled to locate that pitch during Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Astros, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The left-hander walked four batters and gave up two home runs in the loss.
EDGE Analysis
The trouble for Hamels started immediately when he fell behind leadoff batter George Springer, 2-0. His next pitch, a fastball, caught too much of the plate and Springer hammered it into the right-field stands. Falling behind became the rule, not the exception, for Hamels who threw first-pitch balls to nine of the first 13 hitters and fell behind, 2-0, to six of them. "When you get behind in counts, you have to throw some pitches that they are able to hit, and that's what they were able to do," Hamels said. "I have to make the adjustment a lot quicker. It's something I've been searching for all spring, so that was the tough part today. When you have repeatable mechanics, things happen for you." The good news is that Hamels survived with curveballs and cutters, limiting the damage over 5.2 innings.

Hamels (0-1) surrendered three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out seven batters through 5.2 innings during Thursday's loss to Houston.
EDGE Analysis
Drawing the defending champions in the season opener was a bit unlucky, and the Texas offense failed to provide any run support for the veteran lefty. Still, it was encouraging to see him fan seven hitters after posting a career-low 6.4 K/9 last year. Hamels projects to make his next start on the road against Oakland, which should prove to be a more favorable matchup.

Hamels made his final Cactus League appearance Saturday and tossed three scoreless innings against the Indians, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels was pleased with the explosion of his fastball, which had been lacking in a minor-league outing last week. He allowed six runs over 13 innings against major-league competition, but just two over his last 10.2. He'll take the ball Opening Day, March 29, at home against the Astros. After that, he's scheduled to pitch the sixth game of the season, April 3, against the Athletics in Oakland.
