Richard has a stress reaction in his right knee and will be shut down from throwing for at least two weeks, John Lott of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Richard will still have to build back up following the two-week shutdown, so it could be at least a month before he's back in game action. Sean Reid-Foley will start in his place Monday against the Orioles and will likely remain in the rotation until Richard returns.

Richard gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings while striking out six in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw is ticketed for a rotation spot to begin the year, and Richard has put together a solid spring with a 9:3 K:BB through 10.2 innings. After a couple of rough seasons with the Padres, however, he'll need to produce out of the gate if he wants to avoid shifting into a long relief role once Clay Buchholz (elbow) is up to speed.

General manager Ross Atkins said that Richard is assured a spot in the Blue Jays' starting rotation to begin the season, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty struggled mightily in 2018, posting a 5.33 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in 27 starts before undergoing surgeries on both knees in September. Despite the lack of results, Richard's experience seems to be winning out in the race for the final spots in the rotation. Even with a rotation spot in hand, however, his poor showing in 2018 and low strikeout upside keeps him from being a viable fantasy asset until he can prove otherwise.

Richard was acquired by Toronto on Sunday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Richard was designated for assignment by San Diego back on Dec. 20, but the 35-year-old will ultimately land on his feet after catching on with another organization 10 days later. The lefty's best asset is likely experience at this point, as he's coming off a 2018 campaign that would be best forgotten. In 27 games started for the Padres last season, Richard posted a 5.33 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, both regressions from his 2017 marks, and likely not enough to keep him rostered in most standard formats.

Richard (knee) was designated for assignment by the Padres on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres needed to free up a roster spot for the signing of Ian Kinsler, and the 35-year-old Richard was the corresponding roster casualty. While he pitched for San Diego on Opening Day in 2018, Richard struggled to a 5.33 ERA and 108:60 K:BB across 27 starts (158.2 innings). The veteran southpaw underwent season-ending surgery on both knees in August, but is expected to be back to full health for spring training. Richard may find work elsewhere given his extensive big-leagues experience, but his best days appear to be behind him (5.03 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over the past two seasons combined).

Richard (knee) was shifted to the 60-day disabled list Friday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Richard will undergo a pair of procedures over the next couple weeks after being placed on the DL on Tuesday with a knee injury. This move won't impact Richard's timetable, as he will remain sidelined for the rest of the 2018 campaign.

Richard will require a pair of procedures in the coming weeks, one to address inflammation in his left knee and another to clean up bone spurs and rough cartilage in his right knee, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Padres manager Andy Green relayed Tuesday that Richard would only be shut down for the season to undergo surgery on the left knee, but it seems the other knee has been presenting issues for the veteran hurler throughout the campaign, too. The 34-year-old, who has previously required procedures for both knees in past years, won't face an extended recovery from either surgery, as the Padres anticipate that he'll be fully healthy well in advance of spring training to compete for a starting spot. Eric Lauer (forearm) is set to come off the 10-day disabled list and fill Richard's spot in the rotation beginning Thursday against the Rockies.

Richard will undergo surgery on his left knee and miss the rest of the 2018 season, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Richard landed on the disabled list earlier Tuesday with left knee inflammation, but it appears the issue is worse than previously indicated. The 34-year-old has been battling the injury since April and could continue to pitch through it, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports, but the team will instead opt for surgery right away rather than further delay the issue. Eric Lauer (forearm) and Luis Perdomo (shoulder) are both currently on minor-league rehab assignments and should slot back into the starting rotation when ready, with Lauer seemingly closer to being activated.

Richard was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with left knee inflammation.
EDGE Analysis
The assignment is retroactive to Saturday, so Richard could miss just one start and return Sept. 4 against the Diamondbacks, though no official timeline has been announced. Richard allowed a combined 12 runs (11 earned) in 8.2 innings over his last two starts, which could suggest that the knee issue has been bugging him for some time. Colten Brewer (oblique) was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move.

Richard tossed eight innings of two-run ball while giving up four hits and striking out two Monday. He did not factor in the decision in a 6-3 loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Richard tied his season-high for innings pitched, completing eight frames for the third time this season. The veteran southpaw has been an innings eater in every sense of the word, reaching 25 starts for the second consecutive season despite posting lackluster totals in ERA (4.98), WHIP (1.33) and strikeout rate (6.1 K/9). Richard does own a 3.59 ERA at home this season, but fantasy owners should be wary of his next start against a tough Arizona lineup Saturday, even though it comes at Petco Park.
