Owings figures to handle the shortstop duties while Ahmed is out, and he will hope to pick up where he left off prior to the injury. Still just 24 years old, Owings' .759 OPS is the best mark of his career. He has rewarded those who did not completely give up on him after he turned in a sub-replacement level season in 2015.

Owings (foot) began a rehab assignment Wednesday with the Diamondbacks' Rookie League squad.
