Utley is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates. Utley has been in a slump at the dish recently, going 0-for-19 in his last five starts. With the left-handed Jeff Locke going for the Pirates on Friday, the Phillies will send out Andres Blanco at second base, who'll bat second.

Utley went 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's loss to the Reds. Utley is now in a 0-for-21 slump. His average has dropped to .185 and his OPS is sitting at .560 in 216 plate appearances. Utley's numbers have been hurt by a .199 BABIP, but he is also not making as much hard contact as he has in the past. His hard contact rate is 21.8% which is down significantly from last season's 30.4% and his career average of 35%. Utley is driving the ball with less authority which is leading to more outs and less home runs and line drive hits.

Utley went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Reds. The three hits brought Utley's batting average above .200 for the first time this season. He has hit .277/.346/.426 with two home runs over the last 30 days. His early-season slump is over, but it will be a while before his overall numbers reflect the improvement in his production.

Utley went 2-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday's loss against the Mets. Since his batting average dipped to .099 on May 8, Utley has hit safely in 13 of 17 games and has five multi-hit performances in his last seven games. Even with the recent surge, Utley is now batting an ugly .192/.271/.308, but he's looking more Utley-like lately.

Utley is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Utley will take a seat with southpaw Gio Gonzalez on the mound for the Nationals, against whom he is 3-for-21 lifetime. The veteran second baseman has been able to raise his batting average 40 points over a recent seven-game hitting streak, but is still slashing a miserable .174/.250/.297 on the year.

Utley went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run in Thursday's loss to Colorado, extending his hitting streak to six games. Things have taken a dramatic turn for Utley over the course of these six games, as he was hitting .118 heading into Friday's game against Arizona, and he's now at a still-putrid (but hey, improved) .169, thanks to a 9-for-20 (.450) stretch with four doubles, Thursday's triple and a 4:1 BB:K. However, that brutal slump isn't easily forgotten, and four of those six games were in Coors Field, so we'll need to see him keep this up in more neutral hitting environs before we can truly believe.

Utley is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Stephen Gross of the Philadelphia Morning Call reports. Utley was recently dropped to sixth in the batting order, and has actually shown a bit of promise, going 3-for-6 at the plate since the move. It's tough to ignore a .138 season batting average, however, so manager Ryne Sandberg will get his second baseman a day off after starting seven straight. Andres Blanco will man the keystone in his stead.

Utley was dropped to sixth in the batting order Friday and went 1-for-3. Manager Ryne Sandberg would not say how long Utley would hit in the sixth spot. He has been in a season-long slump, hitting just .124 with three home runs and a stolen base.
