Smith (elbow) will throw a simulated game Tuesday with the Red Sox hoping the next step will be a rehabilitation assignment, Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith threw 25 pitches during a simulated game Saturday when he faced live hitters for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2016. The plan calls for a similar pitch count Tuesday. Manager John Farrell indicated Smith will be used in one-inning stints when he eventually is ready to pitch for Boston.

Smith (elbow) threw a 20-pitch simulated game Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was initially scheduled to throw Tuesday, but was pushed back a day due to a inclement weather. Abraham reported that Smith looked good during the session, but since he's more than a year removed from his last appearance in a game following May 2016 Tommy John surgery, the right-hander shouldn't be considered especially close to a return. He may need to pitch in another simulated game or two before the Red Sox clear him to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Smith (elbow) will face live hitters next Tuesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will mark the first time Smith will face live hitters since undergoing Tommy John surgery last May. If all goes well, he'll progress to a simulated game before heading out on a rehab assignment. He's still hoping to return around late-June.

Smith (elbow) said he felt his velocity was back during a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has time-lined his schedule for the next several weeks. He believes he'll be facing hitters in a live batting-practice session and simulated game in three to four weeks. That would be followed by a rehabilitation assignment and a possible return to Boston's active roster by late June.

Smith (elbow) threw off a mound Tuesday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander suffered a setback in his rehab process in late April, but it appears that a bit of time off has gotten him back on track. He'll likely continue to work off a mound before facing live hitters in the next few weeks. Smith was transferred to the 60-day DL around the same time of the setback, so he likely won't be able to return to Boston's bullpen until the beginning of the summer.

Smith (elbow) suffered a setback and has not pitched off a mound in two weeks, the Providence Journal's Tim Britton reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was transferred to the 60-day DL earlier Thursday, and this offers some explanation as to why. He had been progressing with bullpen sessions, but clearly something has caused the Red Sox to take it slow with him. The 27-year-old is still long tossing, but he is not expected back for quite a while.

Smith (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Evan Drellich of CSNNE reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was never going to return before June, so the Red Sox decided to transfer him to the 60-day DL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Chase D'Arnaud, who was recently claimed off waivers. He hasn't been given a firm timetable for return, but he has been able to get though multiple bullpen sessions healthy, so he seems to be slowly progressing through his rehab.

Smith (elbow) has increased his level of throwing and is now participating in bullpen sessions, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell said that Smith threw too aggressively in his first bullpen session and experienced some soreness afterwards, but has had a series of healthy workouts since. Although the team has yet to lay out an official timeframe for Smith's return, it appears that returning at some point in June is still attainable.

Smith (elbow) was put on the 10-day DL on Saturday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Smith won't be active for Opening Day, although he's on the right track as he's going to throw a bullpen session sometime next week. Boston's tentative plan is to have Smith back in their bullpen around June, but a more specific estimate should be clear once his level of throwing picks up.

Smith (elbow) noted that he experienced some tightness after his bullpen session a week ago, but still plans on throwing again next week, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
It doesn't appear that the soreness is anything out of the ordinary for Smith, who is working his arm back to full strength following Tommy John surgery in May of 2016. He's hopeful to return to game action at some point in June, but he still has many hurdles to overcome in his recovery before the Red Sox will provide a clearer timetable. Look for Smith to open the season on the 60-day DL in order to give the Red Sox a little more roster flexibility.
