Smith (elbow, shoulder) threw a second bullpen session Sunday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith is currently in the midst of his second attempt to prepare for a rehabilitation assignment following Tommy John elbow surgery. His first attempt ended in June with shoulder inflammation. Smith has one more bullpen session to go, followed by a session facing live hitters. Those are the last steps before heading out on a rehab assignment.

Smith (elbow, shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was the third time Smith has thrown a bullpen session since the All-Star break, and he's expected to throw another two sessions. After that, the Red Sox will aim to have him face live batters. He'll still need a rehabilitation assignment, so his activation off the disabled list is not expected until early-to-mid August.

Smith (elbow) tossed a bullpen session in Fort Myers on Saturday, The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was finally able to get some work in after suffering a setback a month ago, which caused the right-hander to be shutdown for a week with shoulder inflammation. This marked significant progress for the reliever, as he slowly but surely recovers from Tommy John surgery that has forced him to miss over a year of action. He will likely throw another bullpen in the coming days, and could head out on a rehab assignment within the next couple weeks barring any setbacks.

Manager John Farrell reported Sunday that the Red Sox hope Smith (elbow, shoulder) will be able to begin mound work on Tuesday or Wednesday, Chris Mason of CNHI Sports Boston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was originally scheduled to begin his mound program this weekend, but it appears that he wasn't quite ready so the team bumped back his start date to Tuesday or Wednesday. It's been a long and trying rehabilitation for Smith, but it's encouraging that he'll soon begin ramping up his throwing program again after suffering a setback in mid-June.

Smith (elbow, shoulder) hopes to throw off a mound sometime over the weekend, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
After experiencing yet another setback in his recovery back in June, Smith seems to be ramping up his activity again. Given the nature of his injury and how many roadblocks he's already encountered, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Red Sox tread very carefully with the reliever, although some progress certainly is better than no progress.

Smith (elbow) has resumed throwing, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was shut down from his rehab assignment earlier this month with shoulder inflammation, a brutal break after he had already suffered a similar setback in April. Nonetheless, the latest news is a positive indication the right-hander could be back on the mound within a few weeks and starting a rehab assignment just after the All-Star break. Expect Smith to ramp up his activity if things continue to proceed smoothly, as the Red Sox could certainly use his arm in the bullpen.

Smith (elbow), who was shut down due to shoulder inflammation, will be re-evaluated Monday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was inching closer to a rehabilitation assignment, when the Red Sox announced they were shutting down him down for a bit. They suggested the shoulder soreness wasn't a serious situation, however, to hear the comments of manager John Farrell and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, one gets a different impression. Dombrowski said Smith "still has a chance to come back and help us this year," while Farrell has "not closed the book" on Smith contributing this season. Those are the kinds of statements they made about Tyler Thornburg right before he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery.

Smith (elbow) will be shut down for 4-to-5 days due to shoulder inflammation, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox aren't too concerned about this issue, as it's pretty common for players returning from Tommy John surgery to have some residual soreness as they ramp up activity. However, this does mean that he won't be able to make his rehab appearance on Sunday as planned, although he'll likely just slide it back a week or so to accommodate this development. Smith still has a chance of returning before the All-Star break if all goes as planned.

Smith (elbow) completed a simulated inning Thursday and will embark on a rehab assignment as the next step in his recovery process, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
It seems like everything from the session went as planned (including a small bout of expected shoulder soreness), so the Red Sox seem ready to take the next step in getting Smith back into the big-league bullpen. No word has come forth as to when he'll head out on his assignment, but if it happens soon, he could return before the end of the month.

Smith (elbow) won't pitch his simulated game until Wednesday, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith is experiencing some residual lat stiffness, although the Red Sox still think he'll be able to begin a rehab assignment over the weekend despite the setback. If all goes as planned, it's reasonable to expect the reliever back before the end of the month, although a firmer timetable for his return should emerge once he gets a few rehab appearances under his belt.
