Estevez suffered a right hand injury on the final play of Sunday's win against the Rangers, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Estevez came on in Sunday's game to record the final out and succeeded in just one pitch. However, he was hit by a comebacker on the right hand before throwing to first base for the last out. He appeared to be in considerable pain as he left the field with the trainer and is undergoing X-rays to determine the severity of the injury.

Estevez (1-0) tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one walk and striking out one, to earn the win Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Estevez worked the eighth inning, and the Rockies exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the inning to put him in line for the win. The Rockies' bullpen gave away five of those runs in the ninth, but Daniel Bard closed it out to earn Estevez his first win of the year. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 0.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with seven strikeouts in 9.1 innings this season. Estevez has seen high-leverage usage in 2020, and he's collected three holds.

Estevez allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out one over one inning in Sunday's win against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Estevez was tasked with getting the Rockies out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning Sunday, but he gave up a triple to Wil Myers to clear the bases before forcing a groundout to end the inning. The right-hander went out to begin the ninth inning in a non-save situation with a four-run lead. He gave up a triple to lead off the inning and managed to record two outs afterward, but he was removed from the game after allowing a double. Estevez had thrown 4.1 scoreless innings over his first four relief appearances this season, but he wasn't very reliable Sunday despite being in the conversation to earn save chances in the coming games. However, his performance against the Padres appeared to be an outlier, and he should still be in competition with Jairo Diaz to serve as the closer, especially while Wade Davis (shoulder) remains sidelined.

Estevez allowed five runs on seven hits and had eight strikeouts and zero walks over five innings prior to the suspension of spring training.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old had somewhat of a breakout campaign for the Rockies in 2019, posting a 3.75 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 81:23 K:BB with 11 holds in 71 appearances. According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, Estevez and Jairo Diaz are expected to play prominent bullpen roles for Colorado in front of Scott Oberg and closer Wade Davis this season.

Estevez and the Rockies agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.08 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports.
EDGE Analysis
Estevez's solid 3.75 ERA in 72 innings last season looks even better considering he calls Coors Field home. He struck out 26.3 percent of opposing batters while walking 7.5 percent.

Estevez worked around one walk to throw a scoreless eighth inning Wednesday against St. Louis. He struck out one batter and earned his ninth hold of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Estevez was lifted early Tuesday with back spasms, but clearly it wasn't a major problem as the right-hander was right back on the hill a day later. Unfortunately for those who took a gamble on Estevez after Scott Oberg (blood clot) was placed on the IL, it doesn't seem like Estevez is in line for many save chances. Jairo Diaz has gotten all three saves for Colorado this month.

Estevez was removed from Tuesday's game against the Cardinals with back spasms, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Estevez needed only nine pitches to record the final two outs of the eighth inning and would have returned for the final frame -- and the save opportunity -- were it not for the back spasms. It's unclear if the 26-year-old is expected to be available for Wednesday's contest.

Estevez pitched the seventh inning in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on a solo homer.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Bud Black said last week that Estevez and Jairo Diaz would be in the mix for saves after Scott Oberg was placed on the injured list with a blood clot in his arm. Estevez's usage since then suggests he's behind Diaz in the pecking order; Estevez pitched in the eighth inning Aug. 23 ahead of Diaz, in the sixth inning Aug. 25 and then in the eighth Monday. Diaz blew the save Monday but was credited with the win, and even after the blown save, Diaz still has a 2.61 ERA and 17:2 K:BB this month.

Manager Bud Black said Monday that he's not ready to anoint a new closer, but he made it clear that Estevez and Jairo Diaz will be given chances to close out games over the remainder of the season, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wade Davis squandered a lead in the ninth inning Sunday after Scott Oberg (blood clot) was placed on the IL earlier that day, and it doesn't sound like Black will be turning back to Davis as his closer. Both Estevez and Diaz throw heat, averaging over 97 mph on their fastballs. Estevez's season-long ERA is significantly better than Diaz's, but the estimators are pretty similar and Diaz has been on an excellent run of late (2.16 ERA, 1.08 WHIP in his last seven outings), so it's not clear who will have the edge between the two.

Estevez (personal) worked around one hit and one walk to record a scoreless ninth inning in Sunday's win over the Padres. He struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
After German Marquez went eight strong innings, Estevez pitched the final frame in an 8-3 Colorado victory. It was Estevez's first appearance back after he spent a week on the family medical leave list. Estevez is averaging nearly 98 mph on his fastball, and his 27.2 percent strikeout rate is tied for the best mark on the team. He'd have a case to step into the closer role if Scott Oberg were to lose the job.
