Doval escaped the two-on, two-out situation he inherited from John Brebbia in the eighth inning. In the ninth, Doval ran into his own trouble, allowing a pair of run-scoring, two-out singles to take his first blown save since May 31. Prior to Saturday, he'd gone 10.1 innings without giving up an earned run. The Giants' closer owns a 2.85 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 64:26 K:BB through 53.2 innings. He's 18-for-21 in save chances while adding two holds and a 4-6 record in 54 appearances.

After getting Riley Greene to ground out to open the frame, the closer allowed two consecutive hits before walking Eric Haase to load the bases with one out. Fortunately, Doval was able to get Miguel Cabrera to strike out before inducing a game-ending ground out by Harold Castro, finishing the outing unscathed. The save was his 18th of the season and he has now converted 10 straight opportunities. Doval has now gone 10 straight appearances without allowing an earned run, lowering his ERA from 3.21 to 2.58 over that stretch.

Doval faced the toughest section of San Diego's lineup and had no difficulty retiring Juan Soto, Manny Machado and Josh Bell in order. On the year, Doval is sporting a 2.93 ERA and a 58:19 K:BB through 46 innings.

EDGE Analysis

Doval got into trouble to start the inning with two on and only one out but managed to strike out Seth Brown and get Jed Lowrie to groundout to end it. It was his 14th save in 16 attempts this season and just his second save since the beginning of July. The lack of saves recently has more to do with the Giants slumping than Doval's performance as he's posted a 3.09 ERA and 17:6 K:BB since the beginning of July. For the season, the 25-year-old has a 3.00 ERA, matching his rate from last season, and a solid 57:19 K:BB in 45 innings.
