For what it's worth, the team says Quantrill is healthy, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, and that he will be firmly in the rotation mix next spring after logging a 5.69 ERA in 91.2 innings as a big-league starter in 2019. The Padres were working with a six-man rotation, so this may not result in anyone getting a spot start this weekend against the Diamondbacks.

Quantrill did not factor in the decision against Arizona on Saturday, hurling five innings and giving up one run on two hits and no walks while striking out six.

The 24-year-old surrendered a leadoff triple that was cashed in for a run on a sacrifice fly, but he clamped down to retire 15 of the final 16 batters he faced before departing after the fifth inning. Quantrill will look to turn things around Friday at home against the Diamondbacks.

Quantrill (6-7) took the loss against the Cubs on Monday, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits over 4.1 innings, striking out five and walking two in a 10-2 defeat for the Padres.

It was the third straight start in which the struggling right-hander has given up eight earned, a stretch that has seen Quantrill's ERA jump 3.32 to 5.12. The main culprit for Quantrill's struggles has been his inability to keep the ball in the yard, with 14 long balls to his name across 95 innings. He'll look to get on track in his next start, but he'll have to do it in a tough venue, with the Padres taking on the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday.

Quantrill turned in a baseline quality start, but his only major stumble came in the sixth inning when he surrendered a two-run homer to Freddy Galvis. He was otherwise dominant, at one point retiring 11 consecutive Reds' hitters -- six of which came via strikeout. Quantrill has quietly turned in strong results since the All-Star break, allowing only eight earned runs across 34.1 innings while racking up 34 punchouts. For the season, he now has a 3.32 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 81.1 innings. He'll look to keep things going in his next start, currently scheduled for Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Quantrill (6-3) earned the win Wednesday against the Rays after allowing two runs on three hits over 5.2 innings. He had four strikeouts and one walk.

Quantrill was off to a rough start as Eric Sogard opened the game with an 11-pitch walk followed by a two-run homer from Tommy Pham, but he quickly settled down to deliver a solid performance.
