Still, it was another effective outing for the 26-year-old, who has held his opponents to three runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts dating back to the beginning of July. Quantrill is 3-2 in 32 appearances (14 starts) overall this season, producing a 3.13 ERA in 97.2 innings of work. Twenty-one of his 76 strikeouts have come over his last three outings.

Quantrill (3-2) picked up the win in Friday's 6-1 victory over the Tigers, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out a career-high 10 without walking a batter.

He retired 15 straight batters at one point, and Detroit only managed to get one runner into scoring position against Quantrill. While the quality of the opposition has to be taken into consideration with Friday's outstanding performance, there's no denying Quantrill has turned a corner. The right-hander has reeled off four straight quality starts, and since the beginning of July he sports a 1.96 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB through 41.1 innings.

He lines up for his next start versus St. Louis next week.

Aside from earning his first win of the season, Quantrill also picked up his first quality start for the first time in 2021. His strikeout numbers are still far from acceptable, with a 4.1 K/9 over his last five appearances while posting a 6.00 ERA across that same stretch, but he found a way to get the job done here. That said, he's still far from being a reliable asset in most fantasy formats since he struggles to pitch deep into games and doesn't strike out a ton of guys.
