Mitchell will be one of five pitchers vying for the last two spots in the starting rotation, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell suffered a toe injury in spring training last year that held him out for the better part of the season, but once healthy he pitched solely as a starter, working to a 3.24 ERA over five starts. With the top three spots seemingly accounted for, the 25-year-old righty will compete with Luis Cessa, Luis Severino, Chad Green, and Adam Warren for one of the remaining spots. Should Mitchell lose out, it's possible the Yankees will send him back down to the minors to stay stretched out as a starter, but he's also had some experience as a reliever and could be deployed in a long-relief role in the big league bullpen.

Mitchell threw seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
He did walk five batters, but it was an all-around great performance. Boston scored three runs off the Yankees bullpen, but New York came back to win in the bottom of the ninth. The 25-year-old will end the year having thrown 13 innings and allowed just one earned run over his final two starts.

Mitchell (1-2) gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks over six innings in Friday's 9-0 loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The final score belies the solid performance that Mitchell turned in, as six of the Blue Jays' nine runs were scored after he exited the game. Mitchell did have some trouble with his control, a regression after he'd only issued three free passes over his first three trips to the mound. However, the six innings represented his longest stint this season, and the one earned run the least he'd given up since his first appearance of the season against this same Blue Jays squad on Sep. 7. Mitchell will close out the season next Wednesday versus the Red Sox.

Mitchell didn't factor into the decision against the Red Sox on Saturday, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was staked to an early 3-0 lead, but saw it evaporate in the home half of the third. Xander Bogaerts broke through first with an RBI double and David Ortiz added a run-scoring groundout that brought the latter home. Bogaerts then ended Mitchell's day with a 392-foot two-run shot that plated Jackie Bradley, Jr. with two outs in the fifth. The 25-year-old righty has now given up 10 runs (eight earned) over the seven innings covering his last two starts after pitching five scoreless frames in his 2016 against the Blue Jays on Sept. 7. He'll look for his second victory when he takes on Toronto again next Friday.

Mitchell (1-1) took the loss on Monday, allowing six runs -- two earned -- over 2.1 innings against the Dodgers. He gave up eight hits and struck out two without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The defense didn't do him any favors with those unearned runs, but eight hits is a tough pill to swallow. Mitchell missed most of the season with injury, so there isn't a large body of work with which to judge the 25-year-old. It is worth noting that he posted a 6.37 ERA a season ago in 29.2 innings. His next start will be Saturday in Boston.

Mitchell will stay in the rotation and make his next start Monday against the Dodgers, the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell had a strong season debut Wednesday, tossing five shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts en route to a victory and it was enough to convince manager Joe Girardi to stick with the 25-year-old another time through. After missing nearly the entire season with a toe injury suffered at the end of spring training, Mitchell may be able to make it deeper into future outings as he looks to end the season on a high note.

Mitchell (1-0) threw five shutout innings, allowing just four hits, striking out two and walked two in a victory over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander began the sixth, but after allowing a lead off double to Devon Travis, Yankees manager Joe Girardi replaced him with Luis Severino, who stranded Travis at third. Mitchell had only throw more than four innings once in six minor league starts this season, and he posted a 7.94 ERA as a starter in the MLB last year, so this performance was quite a surprise, especially against Toronto. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain this success should he receiver another MLB start.

Mitchell will start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
He seemed like the favorite to slot into a decimated Yankees rotation, and Mitchell will indeed get the start Wednesday. His minor league numbers are solid enough, but he has only logged over four innings in one of six starts this season, so it would not be surprising if he failed to make it deep into Wednesday's start. Throw in the fact that he'll be facing a potent Blue Jays offense in just his fourth big league start, and it would seem wise to avoid Mitchell in most daily formats.

The Yankees are leaning toward starting Mitchell, who was called up Tuesday, in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
EDGE Analysis
A fractured toe sidelined Mitchell all season until Aug. 8, but he has started six games since, and the Yankees appear ready to give him a start with the big club for the first time since Aug. 17 of last year.

Mitchell is a candidate to replace Chad Green (elbow) in the rotation for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Chad Jennings of The Journal News reports. "It could be Mitchell," manager Joe Girardi said, regarding Wednesday's starter. "That has not been our plan. There's just things we have to talk about and see where we are after Tuesday."
EDGE Analysis
Green was diagnosed with a sprained UCL and strained right flexor tendon following his start Friday, an injury that could spell an end to his season. Luis Severino is the likeliest option to settle in as the replacement starter the rest of the way, but because he was used for two innings in relief Sunday against the Orioles, he'll likely only be available out of the bullpen come Wednesday. As such, Mitchell could represent a possible placeholder in the rotation, though he's tentatively scheduled to start Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's third playoff game Friday. Regardless if it's Mitchell, Severino or somebody else in the organization that gets the call for Wednesday's start, Girardi intimated that the Yankees will likely use multiple relievers to cover one or two innings apiece in order to get through the game. Thus, Mitchell won't be an appealing DFS target if he's ultimately granted the starting nod.
