Mitchell allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts through 5.1 innings in a no-decision Monday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
For the second time this season, Mitchell was bested by the Rockies, as they pummeled him for five runs on eight hits over five innings in his first start of the season on April 2nd as well. Mitchell actually gathered himself well after a disastrous first inning, which included a pair of two-run home runs. From there, he gave up just one run as he cruised through the next four frames. But the damage was done, and Mitchell has now surrendered four home runs in just five starts.

Mitchell gave up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings in an extra-inning loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
A ninth-inning comeback from his teammates got the righty off the hook for what would have been his third loss of the season. This was the first time Mitchell completed six frames through four starts, and he narrowly qualified for a quality start. The 27-year-old owns an atrocious 7:17 K:BB ratio, and it has resulted in undesirable marks in the ERA (5.03) and WHIP (1.88) departments. Mitchell's next start comes on the road against a potent Arizona lineup on Sunday, making him a hard sell even for those in deeper formats.

Mitchell (0-2) took the loss against the Giants on Thursday, giving up four runs (three earned) with five walks and two strikeouts in a 7-0 defeat for the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell didn't get any help from his offense in the shutout loss but it might not have made a difference anyway as his struggles with his command persisted in this start. Mitchell now has 14 walks against just three strikeouts over his 13.2 innings this season and he simply can't be considered a viable fantasy stream until that trend shows signs of correction.

Mitchell allowed three hits while walking six and striking out one across 5.2 scoreless innings against the Astros on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell managed to hold the Astros scoreless in his start Saturday, but it wasn't dominant or convincing in any way. He induced only three swinging strikes and struggled with his control, walking six in just 5.2 innings. Despite some promising stints in the minor-leagues, his skills have yet to translate to the major-league level as a starter.

Mitchell (0-1) surrendered five runs on eight hits and three walks during Monday's 7-4 loss to Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell has failed to consistently translate his minor-league success to the highest level to this point in his career, and Monday was no different. After posting a 3.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 9.3 K/9 through 14 appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season, it's probably still too early to write off Mitchell completely. However, it's not out of the question to continue to take a wait-and-see approach with the 26-year-old righty in the majority of settings.

Mitchell has been confirmed as Monday's starter against the Rockies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fortunately Mitchell's debut for the Padres will come in San Diego, and not in Coors Field. His big-league numbers for the Yankees were pretty awful, but he notched a 3.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 63.2 innings at Triple-A last year, so the Padres are giving him an extended look to see if he can replicate that success in the big-league rotation. In most leagues it would be best to take a wait-and-see approach with Mitchell, but he is a viable option in deep mixers and NL-only formats.

Mitchell will throw in a minor-league game Wednesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
This takes Mitchell out of the discussion for Friday's start against Milwaukee, which will likely fall to Robbie Erlin with Tyson Ross (arm) also working on the minor-league side Wednesday. There has been nothing to suggest Mitchell is dealing with a physical issue. Assuming Mitchell slots into the rotation after normal rest, he will be in line for a two step right away next week, but the matchups for those two starts are really scary (vs. COL, at HOU).

Mitchell could start the Padres' second game of the season Friday against the Brewers after the team announced Sunday that Dinelson Lamet (elbow) would open the campaign on the disabled list, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Andy Green announced Sunday that Clayton Richard, Lamet and Luis Perdomo would start the Padres' first three games of the season, but those plans may no longer hold after Lamet experienced soreness in his right elbow during his Cactus League start later that day. Since Perdomo is slated to start the Padres' exhibition Monday against Triple-A El Paso, he likely won't be pushed up in the schedule to take Lamet's turn on three days' rest, leaving Mitchell and Tyson Ross as the most logical candidates to fill the opening. If Ross ends up starting the second game, Mitchell would likely make his season debut April 2 at Petco Park in the series opener against the Rockies.

Mitchell (neck) will throw in an intrasquad game Sunday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell was scratched from his Cactus League start Saturday after experiencing some neck stiffness during warmups. Mitchell reported that he simply slept on his neck wrong Friday night and is now feeling fine. He'll be a key component in the Padres' rotation this upcoming season.

Mitchell was scratched from Saturday's spring game due to a stiff neck, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Robbie Erlin will take the ball in his place. The severity of the issue remains unclear at this point, but more will hopefully be known following the conclusion of Saturday's game. Mitchell should be considered day-to-day in the meantime.
