Mitchell was designated for assignment, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
He lost out on a 25-man roster spot a couple weeks ago, and given the amount of young talent in the system, it's not surprising that the Padres needed to cut him loose from the 40-man roster. Mitchell's time as a big-league starter is probably over, but he could catch on as a reliever with a team that might want to put a waiver claim on him.

Manager Andy Green said Mitchell will not break camp in the Padres' starting rotation, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell was in the running for one of the team's final rotation spots, but a lackluster spring (6.23 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 4:9 K:BB in 8.2 innings) has left him to compete for a job in the bullpen. The right-hander worked as both as starter and reliever last season, compiling a 5.42 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over 73 innings, and could do the same in 2019.

Mitchell agreed to a one-year, $910,000 contract with San Diego on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old served in both starting and relief roles last season, posting a 5.42 ERA and 1.75 WHIP with 38 punchouts over 73 frames.

Mitchell will not make another start this season, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
As confirmed by Dennis Lin of The Athletic, Mitchell is done for the year after Monday's gem against San Francisco (8.2 scoreless innings, seven strikeouts). The Padres will go with a bullpen game Wednesday and then close out the season with Eric Lauer, Jacob Nix and Joey Lucchesi against Arizona. Mitchell was a certified disaster earlier in the year but put himself back into the conversation for the 2019 rotation by posting a 2.19 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in four September starts.

Mitchell (1-4) took the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits (two home runs) with four strikeouts over five innings Monday against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell appeared to be turning his horrendous season around with two solid outings since rejoining the Padres' rotation Sept. 3, but Monday's rough start was a step in the wrong direction. The 27-year-old will get a chance to redeem himself against these same Giants on the road next Monday.

Mitchell didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Mariners, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
The only mark on Mitchell's ledger was a two-out, solo home run to Robinson Cano in the third inning. The 27-year-old was impressive in this one, but it was just his first quality start since April, and he still sports and inverted 27:40 K:BB to go along with an unsightly 6.07 ERA. His next turn through the rotation will be a home start Tuesday versus the Giants.

Mitchell is listed as the probable pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell logged five innings in his last start for San Diego, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out a pair. His 6.58 ERA and lowly 4.2 K/9 suggest there's little to get excited about here, so even with the starting nod, he can largely be avoided in most fantasy formats.

Mitchell (1-3) allowed one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out two across five innings to earn the win Monday against the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell pitched for the first time since June 5 (elbow) and put together a solid performance despite walking more batters than he struck out. Prior to Monday's start, Mitchell had posted a 6.47 ERA as a starter and has a 25:38 K:BB ratio across 53.1 innings this season. That said, even with positive results in Monday's outing, Mitchell's skills indicate that he will be a liability when he takes the mound.

Mitchell (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres will hope that Mitchell's elbow impingement was the source of his struggles earlier in the season, as he posted an ugly 7.08 ERA and an equally disconcerting 23:35 K:BB in 48.1 innings. Despite that poor performance, he's been given another chance in the rotation and will start Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Mitchell (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list Monday to start against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell is set to join the rotation after spending more than two months on the shelf with an elbow impingement. The right-hander struggled to a 7.08 ERA and 23:35 K:BB across 48.1 innings prior to landing on the shelf. His addition to the rotation is mostly because the Padres want to protect their four rookie starters, Eric Lauer, Brett Kennedy, Joey Lucchesi and Jacob Nix.
