Holaday will make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Starting catcher J.T. Realmuto (back) will begin the season on the disabled list, but the Marlins will still begin the season with three catchers on the Opening Day roster, opening up a spot for Holaday behind Tomas Telis and Chad Wallach. The exact playing time breakdown between the three is not yet clear, but it would be a surprise to see Holaday play often, as he owns a career .244/.279/.343 slash line over parts of three seasons. Realmuto isn't likely to be out long, so one catcher will almost certainly be sent down in early April. Even if that isn't Holaday, he's unlikely to play often enough or well enough to be much of a fantasy asset even in deep, two-catcher formats.

Holaday agreed to a minor-league deal with the Marlins on Friday, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old catcher will join his fourth big-league organization, and will likely head to Triple-A at the outset of the season. J.T. Realmuto is the unquestioned starter, and Tomas Telis likely has the inside track at starting the year in the backup catcher role. Holaday has a career .244/.279/.343 slash line and does not project to provide fantasy value in 2018.

Holaday elected for free agency Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday was outrighted by the Tigers on Friday and apparently prefers free agency over a Triple-A assignment to begin the offseason. At 29 years old, Holaday only played in 13 major-league games this past season and will be hard-pressed to find more big-league opportunities with a new employer, although it's still possible for him to re-sign a deal with the Tigers.

Holaday was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday was removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster after appearing in 13 games with the big-league club in September. During that time, the catcher hit .241/.241/.310 with two RBI. He will continue to serve as organizational depth heading into 2018.

The Tigers selected Holaday's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backstop begins yet another tour with the Tigers, who'll use him in a reserve role. Holaday holds a .269/.325/.450 line in 347 plate appearances for the Mud Hens.

The Tigers signed Holaday to a minor-league contract Friday, and he'll be assigned to Triple-A Toledo.
EDGE Analysis
The backstop has long occupied a backup role in the majors, seeing his busiest workload in 2014 with these Tigers (171 plate appearances with a .231/.266/.276 line). Holaday could step into similar duty this year, but for now he'll have to wait.

Holaday exercised his opt-out clause with the Phillies on Monday and is now a free agent, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran catcher had been in competition for a backup spot behind Cameron Rupp, but upon being informed that he wouldn't make the 25-man roster, he elected to become a free agent. The 29-year-old will look to catch on with another club after spending time with both the Rangers (30 games) and Red Sox (14 games) last season.

Holaday has three hits in 18 at-bats this spring with one home run and four RBI.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday has been competing with Andrew Knapp and Ryan Hanigan for the backup role to Cameron Rupp. Knapp is expected to get the backup job, but there have been reports the Phillies are considering carrying three catchers which would give Holaday or Hanigan a shot at breaking camp with the big club.

Holaday agreed to a minor league deal with the Phillies on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to this signing, prospects Jorge Alfaro and Andrew Knapp were the frontrunners for the backup catcher job, but it would make sense if the Phillies used Holaday in that role to buy some time for their youngsters. Even if he breaks camp with the big league club, Holaday is a subpar offensive catcher and Cameron Rupp will see the bulk of the starts, so he would lack value in the majority of formats.

Holaday was non-tendered by the Red Sox on Friday and is now a free agent.
EDGE Analysis
Sandy Leon and Christian Vazquez are the clear top two catchers for the Red Sox, and Blake Swihart still lingers as a potential wild card, so there was no reason for Boston to pay Holaday in arbitration or allow him to occupy a 40-man roster spot. He has a career 69 wRC+ and all of his value is tied up in his defense. Look for him to catch on with another team, perhaps on a minor league deal, to serve as organizational catching depth.
