Holaday will presumably be the Rangers' starting catcher for the foreseeable future, with Robinson Chirinos heading to the DL with a broken right forearm.
EDGE Analysis
Chris Gimenez is eligible to come off the DL Sunday, but considering he was in a walking boot Monday, he may not be ready that soon. The Rangers may look to add a catcher via a trade, but for now, Holaday should start four or five games each week.

Holaday replaced Robinson Chirinos in the fifth inning of Saturday's game after Chirinos left with a left forearm injury.
EDGE Analysis
Chirinos is headed for X-rays, and if the forearm injury is serious, Holaday could be headed for an expanded role, at least in the short term. Look for him to start Sunday's game, at which point the results of Chirinos' X-rays should become evident.

Holaday was traded to the Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for Bobby Wilson and Myles Jaye.
EDGE Analysis
With Chris Gimenez down with an infection in his ankle, Holaday was brought in to shore up the Rangers' depth behind the plate. Holaday has put together a strong spring, going 14-for-32 (.438 average) with four homers and just two strikeouts, but he's a .251/.283/.340 career hitter at the major league level. Look for him to see only a couple starts per week behind Robinson Chirinos.

Holaday (thumb) is ready to return to spring training action, MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday was set to come in as a late game replacement Tuesday, but the Tigers' spring game was rained out in the third inning before he could come in. The catcher caught a bullpen session earlier Tuesday and appears to be good to go with no restrictions going forward.

Holaday was scratched from Monday's lineup with an apparent thumb injury, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The severity of the issue is currently unknown, but a thumb injury is never a great injury to have as a catcher. He had been stretching his defensive utility as of late, logging some innings as a corner outfielder in an effort to crack the Opening Day roster, but this roadblock poses a bit of a problem to making those hopes a reality. His status should become clearer once an official diagnosis is revealed.

Holaday played three innings in left field Saturday. It was the first time in his career that he played the corner outfield position.
EDGE Analysis
He fielded a ground ball that came through the hole at short. Holaday is hitting .643 with nine hits and three home runs this spring, but is still considered the number three catcher. Positional versatility would go a long way to help Doc land a spot on the squad, as the team is giving serious consideration to breaking camp with three catchers. He also played third base back on March 4.

Holyday has an uphill battle to win the job as the Tigers' backup catcher and could end up in another organization.
EDGE Analysis
Holyday is out of minor league options and his path to the major leagues narrowed when the Tigers inked Jarod Saltalamacchia to a one-year deal in December. He will need to clear waivers to accept an assignment to Triple-A and could get snapped up by a major league team in need of a backup. Holyday backed up Alex Avila in 2014, hitting .231 over 62 games. Last season, he hit .281 in 24 games with the Tigers and .224 in 49 games in Triple-A Toledo.

Holaday was recalled by the Tigers on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old catcher has played just 16 games at the big league level this season, but managed to put together a .271/.271/.396 slash line to go with 12 RBI in that span. He and Kyle Ryan are two of the Tigers' first callups since rosters expanded.

Holaday has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo. With the return of Alex Avila from the DL, Holaday was deemed expendable. He'll remain in the minors the rest of the way barring an injury to Avila or James McCann during the second half of the season.

Holaday will start at catcher Thursday against the Athletics, reports MLive.com. He's hitting .294 with one home run and six RBI in four starts, but he's batting ninth for a team mired in a six-game losing streak. He may not afford spot value to your roster.
