Holaday went 1-for-1 with a walk in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, and is now 6-for-13 (.462) to begin the spring.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backup catcher is back with Miami after slashing .205/.261/.258 through 166 plate appearances in 2018, and his track record makes it clear those early spring numbers are a mirage. Holaday entered camp competing with Chad Wallach (quad) for the No. 2 job behind the plate, but with Jorge Alfaro also dealing with a knee injury, Holaday's path to a spot on the 25-man roster is looking a little clearer.

Holaday agreed to a minor-league deal that includes a spring training invite with the Marlins on Friday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday will be back in Miami after serving as a backup to J.T. Realmuto at the catching position last season. Across 61 games, he hit just .205/.261/.258 with one home run and 16 RBI, so he will have to battle for a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Holaday elected free agency after being outrighted off the 40-man roster Saturday, Craig Mish of Sirius XM reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old will weigh offers on the open market after slashing .205/.261/.258 across his 166 plate appearances with the Marlins in 2018. It's still possible that Holaday will re-sign with Miami this winter, but whether that happens or he heads elsewhere, the journeyman catcher will most likely have to settle for a minor-league deal.

Holaday was cast off the Marlins' 40-man roster Saturday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans after playing in 61 games for Miami this season. During those contests, he slashed just .205/.261/.258 with one home run and 16 RBI but threw out 17 of 38 runners at the catching position, which led the National League.

Holaday entered Sunday's win over the Nationals in the top of the ninth inning as a pinch hitter and stayed in the game to catch, going 0-for-1 and leaving two men on base.
EDGE Analysis
With J.T. Realmuto healthy, Holaday is only starting about one game a week, but Marlins manager' Don Mattingly's willingness to shift Realmuto to first base is allowing Holaday to see more action as part of double switches than a typical NL backup catcher. The veteran's .423 OPS on the season doesn't make him worthy of fantasy consideration in any format even with the additional handful of at-bats, though.

Holaday is out of the Marlins lineup Tuesday against the Yankees and is expected to see his playing time tail off after J.T. Realmuto (back) was activated from the 10-day disabled list.
EDGE Analysis
While Realmuto was sidelined for the Marlins' first 16 games of the season, Holaday split duties behind the plate evenly with Chad Wallach, with both backstops logging eight starts apiece. Though he will stick on the active roster over Wallach, who was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, Holaday will now likely be limited to only a couple starts per week with Realmuto back on the fold. With a .179/.258/.214 batting line over his first 31 plate appearances of the season, Holaday hadn't offered much assistance to owners in NL-only formats and will see his negligible fantasy value sink further now that he's playing on an infrequent basis.

Holaday is not in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday will head to the bench for the third time in the past four games as the Marlins face off against righty Ivan Nova and the Pirates. Chad Wallach takes over behind the plate, batting eighth.

Holaday is not in the lineup Friday against the Pirates, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is the second consecutive game in which Holaday will not start after grabbing starts in the three prior contests. Even when he's starting, he's an unattractive fantasy catcher given his .190 batting average. Chad Wallach will set up behind the dish Friday.

Holaday is not in the lineup against the Mets on Wednesday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday will receive a breather following three straight starts behind the plate in favor of Chad Wallach during Wednesday's series finale. Over the course of nine appearances this season, Holaday is hitting .190/.261/.238 with two RBI.

The Marlins selected Holaday's contract from Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday will join the Marlins for Opening Day as a third catcher, but it's likely that he or Chad Wallach will be dropped from the 40-man roster once J.T. Realmuto (back) is cleared to come off the disabled list in early or mid-April. Though Wallach will garner the start behind the plate for Thursday's season opener against the Cubs, expect Tomas Telis to act as the Marlins' primary backstop while Realmuto is on the shelf.
