Phillips announced his retirement from baseball via his Instagram account Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips will hang up his cleats after spending parts of seven major-league seasons as an outfielder before attempting to make a return to baseball as a pitcher in 2024 with the Yankees' organization. The 31-year-old compiled a career batting average of .187 with 31 home runs, 99 RBI, 122 runs scored and 39 stolen bases over 393 regular-season games with the Brewers, Royals, Rays, Orioles and Angels.

The Yankees signed Phillips to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips had played the outfield since entering the professional ranks in 2012, but he'll make the conversion to pitching as he joins the Yankees organization. The 30-year-old made his pitching debut Monday in the National Baseball Congress World Series and was throwing in the mid- to high-90s, which immediately earned him an opportunity in affiliated ball. He'll report to the Yankees' spring training complex in Florida initially.

The White Sox released Phillips on Saturday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips signed a minor-league deal with Chicago in January and has slashed just .120/.228/.280 across 57 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. He'll now look to latch on with another organization on a minor-league deal, but his odds of contributing in the big leagues again are slim.

Phillips signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips, 29, spent most of 2023 at Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels organization. He did see 71 plate appearances with the Halos, slashing just .175/.268/.333 with an obscene 51 percent strikeout rate. Phillips is likely headed to Triple-A Charlotte to start 2024, although the club's lack of outfield depth could force him into some action at the major-league level.

Phillips cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move clears Phillips from the Angels' 40-man roster. He has the ability to elect free agency if he wants.

Phillips is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty-hitting Phillips will head to the bench for the fourth time in five games, with all four absences coming against right-handed pitching. He appears to have lost hold of his regular role in center field, with Jo Adell having supplanted Phillips as the Angels' preferred option at the position while Mickey Moniak (back) remains on the injured list.

Phillips isn't in the Angels' lineup Friday against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips will get a chance to clear his head Friday after going 0-for-11 with eight strikeouts over his last three games. Jo Adell will get the nod in center field and bat fifth while Phillips sits.

Phillips went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips has done pretty well over his 10 games since he was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake, going 10-for-32 (.313) with three homers, four RBI and six runs scored. His ninth-inning blast Saturday sent the game to an extra inning, though the Angels ultimately lost anyway. The outfielder is slashing .244/.346/.467 over 52 plate appearances this season.

Phillips went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips opened the scoring in the third inning with a solo homer off Luis Castillo, his second longball in 28 games this season. The 29-year-old outfielder has made eight straight starts since he was recalled from Triple-A on Sep. 6, going 8-for-25 (.320) in that span. While Phillips should continue to see playing time with the injury-depleted Angels, his career OPS of .627 offers little upside for fantasy purposes.

Phillips will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Mickey Moniak (back) and Shohei Ohtani (oblique) having not started in the past week and with Mike Trout (wrist) still on the injured list, Phillips has been one of the prime beneficiaries from a playing-time standpoint. Phillips, who will pick up his eighth straight start in the outfield Wednesday, has gone 6-for-22 (.273 average) with one home run, two RBI and four runs. Though he's performed well thus far since his call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake earlier this month, Phillips is striking out at a 44 percent clip, which suggests his batting average could soon be trending downward.
