Brandon McCarthy returned from the disabled list Saturday and gave up two runs over six innings in a 9-3 win over the Royals. McCarthy scattered eight hits while striking out two and walking two. He was pulled after throwing 54 out of 71 pitches for strikes, so he was incredibly efficient while operating on a pitch count. The 28-year-old right-hander will carry a 2.95 ERA into his next start against the Rangers on Thursday and should be back on the radar in mixed leagues.

If he wakes up feeling no abnormal soreness on Tuesday morning, McCarthy will be in line to return from the disabled list as soon as he's eligible (on June 2). The 28-year-old right-hander has posted a fantastic 2.95 ERA and 40/16 K/BB ratio across 58 innings this season.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) is scheduled to resume throwing later this week and is expected to be ready for activation when first eligible on June 2. Obviously, we won't know for sure if he'll be ready then until we see how he feels after picking up a ball again. But, the A's seem optimistic and McCarthy himself said when he went on the DL that he wouldn't be out long. Feel free to scoop him up in fantasy leagues if he's been dropped.

An MRI on Brandon McCarthy's right shoulder showed no damage to his scapula. It's good news, as that's been the problem area for the right-hander. McCarthy was placed on the disabled list Sunday and admitted that the shoulder was really bothering him in his last start, but he thinks the injury is minor and his goal is to return in 15 days. Graham Godfrey is replacing McCarthy in the rotation.

Athletics placed RHP Brandon McCarthy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with a strained right shoulder. McCarthy made two starts since having an outing pushed back due to shoulder trouble, but he's obviously not over the ailment. The tall right-hander has a history of shoulder problems, and it's not clear at this point how long he'll be out. The A's haven't said who will replace him in the rotation, but Graham Godfrey and Brad Peacock are options.

Brandon McCarthy struck out 10 in seven scoreless innings to defeat the Tigers on Saturday. The shoulder scare isn't looking so bad now. McCarthy has allowed more than two earned runs just once in eight starts this season, and he now has three wins in a row to show for it after opening the season 0-3. The 10 strikeouts tonight matched his career high.
