Gomber (6-1) allowed one run on six hits and three walks across five innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Braves. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 25 batters and induced six groundball outs to help his cause. He allowed a leadoff home run to Ronald Acuna in the third inning and loaded the bases shortly after, but he was able to escape the jam with no further damage. Gomber continues to put runners on base at a high rate and has now allowed at least nine to reach in four consecutive outings, bringing his WHIP to 1.46. He's allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts, but he'll need to rein it in for that trend to continue. Gomber will look to do just that next week against the Brewers.

Gomber (5-1) allowed seven earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three across three innings to take the loss Thursday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber struggled from the beginning, allowing four of the first five batters he faced to reach base, which resulted in three earned runs through just one frame. That set the tone for the rest of his outing, and he surrendered more than three earned runs in a start for the first time in six outings. The rookie will look to bounce back in his next start, likely to come Tuesday at Atlanta.

Gomber didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Tigers, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
It's his fourth quality start in his last five outings, and Gomber now has a 2.70 ERA in 40 innings since the beginning of August -- a stretch that includes a start in Coors Field. The southpaw will try to keep things rolling Wednesday at home against the Pirates.

Gomber (4-0) pitched six innings and earned the win Sunday, yielding two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk in the 12-3 win over Colorado. He struck out six batters.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber was handed a 6-0 lead before he threw his first pitch and he did a solid job of protecting it. The rookie left-hander now owns a terrific 2.79 ERA across 48.1 innings on the year. Gomber has also earned a win in three of his last four starts and he continues to prove why he should stay in the rotation down the stretch. Next time he takes the mound will be at home against the Reds on Saturday.

Gomber (3-0) got the win Wednesday, firing six shutout innings with six strikeouts while allowing three hits and four walks against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber was in command in this one, and though he allowed a runner to reach scoring position in each of his final three innings, he was able to stifle the threat without any damage each time. The rookie has now tossed 11 straight scoreless innings with nine strikeouts over the past two outings, lowering his ERA to an impressive 2.89 through 37.1 innings. Given his recent performances and the fact that the Cardinals are electing to slot Carlos Martinez (shoulder) into the bullpen upon his return, Gomber figures to stick around in the rotation. Next up is a road start Monday against the Dodgers.

Gomber is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
After tossing five scoreless innings his last time out against the Royals on Aug. 10 to move to 2-0 on the season, Gomber will garner a third consecutive start for the Cardinals. With the Cardinals recently indicating that injured starter Carlos Martinez (shoulder) will likely shift to the bullpen for the rest of the season once he's activated from the 10-day disabled list, Gomber's hold on a rotation spot should be fairly secure so long as he performs capably.

Gomber is listed as the Cardinals' probable starter for Friday's game against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
The Cardinals' decision to deploy waiver pickup Tyson Ross out of the bullpen after adding him to the active roster Tuesday will pave the way for Gomber to pick up his third start of the season with the big club. After shining in the first of those outings July 24 against the Reds, Gomber took a step back his last time out Aug. 4 in Pittsburgh, lasting just four innings while serving up four runs on seven hits and three walks. The Cardinals will have an opening in the rotation for at least one more turn beyond Friday while Carlos Martinez works back from a shoulder injury, but Gomber may need to perform well in his return to the mound in order to stave off Ross or Daniel Poncedeleon for a starting role.

Gomber didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Pirates, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw threw 71 pitches (47 strikes) and left the game with the score knotted at 4-4, leaving Dakota Hudson to benefit from the continued barrage of hits by the Cards offense. Gomber figures to remain in the rotation for now, but another poor outing Friday in Kansas City could see him swap places with Hudson and move back into a relief role.

Gomber will take Carlos Martinez's (shoulder) spot in the rotation and start against Pittsburgh on Saturday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber made his first start at the major-league level in Cincinnati on July 24, allowing just two earned runs on two hits and a pair of walks while striking out six across 6.1 innings. The left-hander was then shifted to the bullpen when Martinez was activated from the 10-day DL with an oblique injury, but with Martinez back on the shelf with a shoulder issue, Gomber will temporarily rejoin the rotation. Across 18 appearances with the Cardinals this year, Gomber has logged a 3.22 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with a 7.3 K/9.

Gomber is expected to shift to the bullpen after making his first career MLB start Tuesday against the Reds, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Gomber was impressive in the no-decision -- he gave up just two runs on two hits and two walks over 6.1 innings and struck out six -- it doesn't appear the Cardinals are willing to commit to him as a full-time starter just yet. The Cardinals are set to promote Luke Weaver from Low-A Peoria to start Friday against the Cubs and will keep John Gant in the rotation for the series finale Sunday, while Carlos Martinez (oblique) could come off the 10-day disabled list and start as soon as Monday versus the Rockies. Those pitchers would accompany Miles Mikolas and Jack Flaherty to give the Cardinals a five-man staff, leaving no room left over for Gomber. Weaver (4.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP in 20 starts) and Gant (3.76 ERA, 1.20 WHIP in seven starts) likely don't have much job security, however, so any further poor outings by either pitcher could open the door for Gomber to get a more extended look in the rotation.
