Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that Andy Pettitte could pitch one inning in Wednesday's Grapefruit League finale against the Mets. Girardi wants to speak with Yankees' pitching coach Larry Rothschild one more time before confirming, but it sounds like it has a good chance of happening. If the Yankees opt against using him Wednesday, Pettitte will likely pitch in a minor league game or another simulated game on Thursday. The 39-year-old southpaw could be ready to rejoin the Yankees in May.

Andy Pettitte could pitch in the Yankees' final spring training game Wednesday against the Mets. Pettitte has only pitched in simulated games until now, but Yankees' manager Joe Girardi didn't dismiss the possibility prior to Monday's game. The 39-year-old southpaw isn't on the travel roster Tuesday, so Wednesday would be his final chance to appear in a spring game before the team breaks camp. Either way, Pettitte isn't expected to find his way back to the major leagues until some point in May.

Andy Pettitte will pitch in a simulated game on Saturday. Pettitte reported no ill effects following a Tuesday bullpen session, and could be ticketed for game action if his simulated outing goes well. Rounding back into game shape, Pettitte isn't expected to make a major-league appearance until mid-May at the earliest.

Andy Pettitte is scheduled to throw live batting practice Friday. Pettitte's comeback is off and running after he threw 50 pitches in his first official bullpen session Tuesday in Yankees' camp. The 39-year-old southpaw could pitch in a game before the end of spring training, but isn't likely to join the Yankees until May.

Andy Pettitte said Tuesday that the feels like he needs six weeks before he's major-league ready. Pettitte made the comments after throwing a bullpen session Tuesday. Yankees' manager Joe Girardi hasn't dismissed the possibility that he'll get in a game before the team breaks camp, but most of his preparation will come at the minor league level. If all goes well, he could be ready to join the Yankees' rotation in May. Phil Hughes or Freddy Garcia figure to occupy the fifth spot until then.

Andy Pettitte threw a bullpen session Tuesday. Pettitte has been working out for a few months in anticipation of making his comeback, but the veteran left-hander probably won't be ready to start a game for another two weeks. He is not expected to open the season on the Yankees' active roster.

Andy Pettitte said Friday that he thinks he'll be ready to make "rehab" starts in 2-3 weeks if all goes well. It's unclear how many starts he'll need to get back in pitching shape, but we wouldn't be on seeing him before May. For what it's worth, Pettitte seems to be happy with the shape his arm is in but says his legs still have a ways to go. The Yankees will go with Phil Hughes or Freddy Garcia in the rotation until Pettitte is ready.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman expects Andy Pettitte to report to camp early next week. Cashman also said that Pettitte "looked good" in a recent throwing session. The GM also revealed that he offered Pettitte a $12 million deal in December, but the lefty wasn't ready to commit to returning at that point. Pettitte has already done some throwing and appears to be in good shape, but it sounds like it will be at least until May when he's ready to join the rotation.
