Abbott did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 7.2 innings against the Padres. He struck out 12.
EDGE Analysis
Abbott turned in the best start of his young career Sunday, holding San Diego scoreless through 23 outs but was pulled at 101 pitches after allowing a solo home run to Ha-Seong Kim. The outing set a career high in strikeouts and marked his third straight start fanning eight or more batters, Through six appearances (37.2 innings), Abbott owns a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.21 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 42:13 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled to take on the Brewers next, who strike out the fourth most in MLB and rank 25th in runs per game.

The 24-year-old southpaw now has 18 strikeouts in his last two starts (12 innings) after punching out 12 over his first 17.2 innings. Abbott didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies after allowing three runs on four hits while striking out 10 batters over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Abbott's run of three straight scoreless starts to begin MLB career came to an end in a hurry Wednesday, as the rookie left-hander allowed a leadoff home run to Brenton Doyle to open the game. He went on to surrender two more solo homers on the afternoon but still managed to reach six innings and set a career high in strikeouts. Abbott also didn't walk a batter for the first time in four starts this season.

Abbott (2-0) earned the win Saturday, allowing five hits and three walks over 5.2 scoreless innings against St. Louis. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Abbot got himself into jams in the first and fifth innings but managed to work his way out of them unscathed, and the Reds provided him with plenty of early run support. The rookie left-hander was especially effective with his four-seamer in the contest but struggled with the placement of his off-speed pitches throughout, which led to the three walks. Abbot has now won his first two starts for Cincinnati and has yet to allow a run over 11.2 innings despite issuing seven free passes over that stretch.

Abbott was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
After making 20 starts at Chattanooga a season ago, Abbott returned to the Southern League to begin the 2023 campaign but was able to earn a quick promotion after striking out 36 and walking just three while posting a 1.15 ERA and 0.57 WHIP across 15.2 innings through his three outings. Now at the final rung of the minor-league ladder, the 23-year-old lefty could have a realistic chance at making his MLB debut later this season if he can continue to make bats miss and limit walks in the International League.

Abbott has 36 strikeouts and three walks while sporting a 1.15 ERA and 0.57 WHIP in 15.2 innings through three starts for Double-A Chattanooga.
EDGE Analysis
A 64.3 percent strikeout rate and 58.9 K-BB% is a quick way for a pitching prospect to generate buzz. While Abbott was a known prospect entering the year, most evaluators had him pegged as a back-end starter. Last year, he had a 4.75 ERA, 3.48 FIP, 1.37 WHIP, 30.8 percent strikeout rate and 10.6 percent walk rate in 20 starts at Double-A. Look for Abbott to quickly get promoted to Triple-A, as he now has over 100 innings under his belt at Double-A and will turn 24 in June. From there, he could force a promotion to the majors in short order, given that Luis Cessa and Luke Weaver are currently in the big-league rotation. Abbott's hot start oversells his prospect value, as he's a cerebral lefty with a low-90s fastball, quality breaking ball and improved changeup, but there's no doubt he is trending up as much as any Double-A pitching prospect.

The Reds promoted Abbott from High-A Dayton to Double-A Chattanooga on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old lefty climbs a run on the minor-league ladder after he went 3-0 with a 0.67 ERA and 40:7 K:BB across 27 innings. Abbott profiles as a command specialist more so than a power pitcher, as he sports a fastball that tops out around the mid-90s.

Abbott has a 0.67 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 40:7 K:BB across 27 innings spanning five appearances (four starts) for High-A Dayton.
EDGE Analysis
Those eye-popping numbers include a stretch of three consecutive outings in which Abbott recorded double-digit strikeouts. If there's one knock on Abbott here, it's that he's a little on the older side (a few weeks short of 23) to be considered a big-time prospect in High-A, so his real test will come when he inevitably gets pushed up to Double-A in the near future. If he keeps succeeding like this, he'll garner a lot of attention very quickly. Unlike a lot of other young arms, he's been finishing six innings fairly regularly (three times in his five appearances), which could enable him to move quickly through the organization.
