Abbott pitched 3.1 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five batters.

Abbott was handed a 6-1 lead through the middle of the the third frame, but he was unable to convert that to a win. The rookie allowed Chicago to quickly get back into the contest with a three-run bottom of the third, and he was pulled with one out in the fourth after 76 pitches, only 45 of which were strikes. The outing was the shortest of Abbott's career and snapped a string of three straight quality starts. Despite the poor performance, there's no reason for Abbott's fantasy managers to panic -- he came into Monday having tossed two straight scoreless starts and still holds an impressive 2.35 ERA and 1.03 WHIP on the campaign.

Abbott (6-2) earned the win Tuesday at Milwaukee after he struck out nine and allowed seven hits and one walk over six scoreless innings.

EDGE Analysis

The Brewers had traffic on the bases in every inning, but Abbott induced 15 swinging strikes to help deliver his fifth scoreless start of the season. Since he surrendered six runs over 4.1 frames against Milwaukee on July 7, the rookie left-hander has given up just two runs with an 18:5 K:BB across 20 innings over his past three starts.

Abbott (5-2) earned the win Thursday, allowing one hit and two walks over eight scoreless innings against the Giants. He struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

Abbot was spectacular, allowing only three baserunners while pitching a career-high eight innings. It was the fourth time this season he's thrown five or more shutout innings. and the second time he's allowed just one hit. The left-hander has won five of nine starts to begin his rookie campaign and lowered his ERA to 2.10.

Abbott (4-2) took the loss Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings against Milwaukee. He struck out three.

Abbott was exceptional outside of a pair of leadoff home runs allowed to Christian Yelich in the first and William Contreras in the fourth. Though he took the loss, Abbott picked up his sixth quality start of the campaign and offered a strong bounceback from his last start, when he gave up six runs against the Brewers on July 7. Through eight starts (47.2 innings), Abbott owns a 2.45 ERA and a 51:16 K:BB but has allowed 1.5 HR/9. His next start is tentatively scheduled to come against the Giants at Great American Ball Park.

Abbott (4-1) allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Milwaukee.

EDGE Analysis

The Brewers jumped on Abbott with four runs in the first two innings. It was the first major hiccup in the rookie's MLB career after he allowed one run or fewer in five of his first six career starts. After a 17.2-inning scoreless streak to open his career, Abbott has given up 11 runs over his last four outings. He still owns an impressive 2.38 ERA with a 48:14 K:BB across 41.2 frames.

Abbott did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 7.2 innings against the Padres. He struck out 12.

Abbott turned in the best start of his young career Sunday, holding San Diego scoreless through 23 outs but was pulled at 101 pitches after allowing a solo home run to Ha-Seong Kim. The outing set a career high in strikeouts and marked his third straight start fanning eight or more batters, Through six appearances (37.2 innings), Abbott owns a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.21 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 42:13 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled to take on the Brewers next, who strike out the fourth most in MLB and rank 25th in runs per game.

Abbott continued a stellar start to his big-league career, delivering a third quality start through four outings. The 24-year-old southpaw now has 18 strikeouts in his last two starts (12 innings) after punching out 12 over his first 17.2 innings. Abbott sports a sparkling 1.21 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB on the campaign. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively lined up for this weekend against the Padres.

Abbott didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies after allowing three runs on four hits while striking out 10 batters over six innings.

EDGE Analysis

Abbott's run of three straight scoreless starts to begin MLB career came to an end in a hurry Wednesday, as the rookie left-hander allowed a leadoff home run to Brenton Doyle to open the game. He went on to surrender two more solo homers on the afternoon but still managed to reach six innings and set a career high in strikeouts. Abbott also didn't walk a batter for the first time in four starts this season.

Abbott (2-0) earned the win Saturday, allowing five hits and three walks over 5.2 scoreless innings against St. Louis. He struck out four.

EDGE Analysis

Abbot got himself into jams in the first and fifth innings but managed to work his way out of them unscathed, and the Reds provided him with plenty of early run support. The rookie left-hander was especially effective with his four-seamer in the contest but struggled with the placement of his off-speed pitches throughout, which led to the three walks. Abbot has now won his first two starts for Cincinnati and has yet to allow a run over 11.2 innings despite issuing seven free passes over that stretch.

Abbott was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

EDGE Analysis

After making 20 starts at Chattanooga a season ago, Abbott returned to the Southern League to begin the 2023 campaign but was able to earn a quick promotion after striking out 36 and walking just three while posting a 1.15 ERA and 0.57 WHIP across 15.2 innings through his three outings. Now at the final rung of the minor-league ladder, the 23-year-old lefty could have a realistic chance at making his MLB debut later this season if he can continue to make bats miss and limit walks in the International League.
