Andre Ethier (ankle) is on the Dodgers' NLDS roster.
But he'll probably be limited to a pinch-hitting role in Los Angeles' best-of-five with the Braves. Ethier tested his ankle with some light baserunning Wednesday and reported no major issues. He could return to the starting lineup if the Dodgers advance to the NLCS.

Andre Ethier (ankle) ran the bases on Wednesday afternoon and reported no major issues.
It wasn't a full-speed workout, though, and Ethier is likely to be limited to pinch-hitting duties in the first round against the Braves. The 31-year-old missed a large chunk of September with a badly-sprained left ankle.

Andre Ethier (ankle) may be limited to pinch-hitting duties in the National League Divisional Series.
It's even possible that he could be left off the roster altogether if his ankle isn't ready to go by the start of the series. Ethier still hasn't even attempted to run the bases since suffering the ankle injury last Tuesday.

Andre Ethier (ankle) still hasn't tried running the bases since last Tuesday.
Ethier hit in a simulated game on Friday and will work out with the Dodgers Sunday. Where he fits on the team's NLDS roster is still up in the air. "Are we willing to say 'Dre is just going to be a pinch-hitter?" manager Don Mattingly said. "It's really a matter of what we're willing to live with. I think we're open to looking at our roster and what's the best way to use him. ... Some of it we can't make a decision until we see what he can do."

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Thursday that Andre Ethier (ankle) will not return during the regular season.
It's possible he'll be back for the first round of the playoffs, but that's not a given. With his progress stalled, Ethier had his sprained ankle re-examined on Wednesday. He tried running the bases recently but was tentative in doing so.

Andre Ethier has been sent back to Los Angeles to have his left ankle examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
He hasn't recovered as hoped from his sprained ankle, and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admits that he's worried the outfielder might not be available for the first round of the playoffs. Ethier, who hasn't started a game since September 13, ran the bases before Tuesday's game but looked tentative doing so. More will obviously be known about his status following the exam.

Andre Ethier (ankle) remained out of the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday.
Ethier shagged fly balls in the outfield and then ran the bases before Tuesday's game, but, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick, "looked pretty tentative rounding second." He hasn't started a game since September 13 due to a sprained left ankle but should be back in the lineup at some point this week.
