Despite a solid campaign, Mejia's potential path to the big leagues remains murky, even considering he's capable of playing all four infield spots -- the Cardinals boast three productive under-30 players in Jedd Gyorko, Paul DeJong and Kolten Wong, along with a slugging veteran in Matt Carpenter whose pop is an essential part of their lineup.

Mejia cleared waivers and was outrighted off the Cardinals' 40-man roster Monday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
