Colome (2-3) gave up one run one two hits and a walk in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Colome had improving over recent outings prior to Sunday's game. Over his last four appearances he'd thrown four shutout innings and struck out six batters. However, his struggles returned Sunday, as he couldn't retire the opposition and threw 25 pitches during his single inning of work. Although the Rays have yet to indicate that Colome is at risk of losing his role as the team's closer, his inconsistent outings have resulted in a dismal 6.00 ERA and 2.17 WHIP after 13 games (12 innings).

Colome (2-2) struck out the side during a perfect ninth inning in a win over the Twins on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Colome went a long way to allaying some concerns during the three-game set against the Twins, notching his first two victories of the season with a pair of perfect innings to close out games. Sunday, he got 12 of his 17 pitches into the strike zone while disposing of the potent trio of Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario and Logan Morrison. The three scoreless efforts Colome has generated over his last four appearances have lowered his ERA from 10.80 to 7.00, and he appears to be settling down after a very rocky start to April.

Colome (1-2) fired a clean tenth inning in a victory over the Twins on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
It may not have been a save opportunity, but Colome and the Rays had to be thrilled to see the embattled closer generate a 1-2-3 inning and then end up with the win as a bonus. Colome had given up an earned run in three of his previous four trips to the mound, and seven runs overall in his previous seven appearances. The 29-year-old was able to get through his frame with an efficient 11 pitches, as well, a welcome departure from the 16-20 offerings he'd needed to get navigate an inning or less in his last four outings.

Colome gave up a run on one hit and two walks while striking out one in the ninth inning Wednesday to pick up his fourth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander has now been scored upon in five of his eight appearances to begin 2018, and while Colome does have four saves he's also blown two already. His 9.00 ERA and 6:6 K:BB in seven innings will need to improve dramatically if he's going to hang onto his spot as the Rays' closer -- or rehabilitate his trade value before getting bundled off to a contender.

Colome fired a scoreless ninth inning in a 7-2 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The closer got some work in a non-save scenario Tuesday, with manager Kevin Cash opting to roll him out for the first time since last Friday. The low-leverage scenario appeared to be beneficial for Colome after he'd allowed an earned run apiece in each of his previous two outings. It's been a rocky road thus far for the 29-year-old in 2018, as he's already been charged with two losses in addition to blowing a pair of saves.

Colome (0-2) allowed an earned run on two hits in the ninth inning of a 2-1 loss to the Phillies on Friday. He also racked up three strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
The increasingly embattled closer failed to get the job done again, allowing a one-out double to Scott Kingery that would prove costly. Colome set down Aaron Altherr on a strikeout before Jorge Alfaro knocked in Kingery with a well-placed single between third and short. Despite the fact Colome has blown two saves and also has two losses on his ledger isn't shaking his boss's faith in him -- at least not publicly -- Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. "I actually thought he threw the ball better today," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "I thought he threw his fastball up in the zone a little bit more. Just established the fastball to get some chase. Kingery hits the double and Alfaro finds a hole there between [Adeiny Hechavarria] and [Matt Duffy]. All in all, I like the way he's attacking in the zone. He just gave it up."

Colome earned his third save while allowing one earned run on one hit and a walk over 0.2 innings in Tuesday's victory over the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Colome inherited two runners when he entered Tuesday's game. While he shut down the first batter he faced, Jose Abreu proceeded to slug a three-run home run, cutting the Rays' lead to just one. Despite this, Colome was able to pick up his third save of the season. Although he's converted his last two save opportunities, Colome has been shaky on the mound since the start of the season. Over five games (four innings) he's allowed five runs on 10 hits and four walks.

Colome threw one shutout inning in Monday's 5-4 victory over the White Sox, earning his second save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Heading into Monday's game, Colome had blown each of his last two save opportunities. Despite allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base, Colome managed to get back on track and escaped the inning without allowing a run. Moving forward, Colome will look to bring down his unsightly 3.60 WHIP as he aims to move past his shaky start to the season.

EDGE Analysis
Colome has now blown two of his three save opportunities this season and has given up four runs over just 2.1 innings. In addition to failing to close Sunday's game, Colome was handed the loss, as the Rays blew a 7-2 lead in the eighth inning. Despite his recent struggles, the team has yet to indicate that Colome will no longer be used in save opportunities.

Colome allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out none and blowing a save opportunity Thursday against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Colome entered the ninth inning with a two run lead but was unable to secure a win for the Rays. This was only his second appearance of the season, with the first being a routine save. Despite a relatively low strikeout rate, Colome has proven he can be an effective closer and should have a fairly long leash in the role as a result. If struggles persist and he is demoted-- or if trade rumors finally come to fruition--Sergio Romo and Jose Alvarado are potential closers in waiting.
