Plutko was initially lined up to pitch Wednesday, but he'll instead get the ball for the series opener due to Zach Plesac being pushed back in the schedule following the rookie's 114-pitch shutout Sept. 10. The change will result in Plutko lining up for two starts this week, with his second turn coming Sunday versus Philadelphia.

Plutko didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Angels, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings while striking out three.

The right-hander got staked to a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning, but Plutko needed 76 pitches (49 strikes) to record only 13 outs and got chased from the game in the fifth by a Shohei Ohtani solo shot. Plutko (6-4) allowed four runs on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts over 4.1 innings as he took the loss at the hands of the Rays on Sunday.

Plutko had been in a nice groove lately as he had let up three earned runs or less in six of his previous seven starts. He gave up the lead in the first on an RBI single by Joey Wendle but the Indians tied it up in the second only for Plutko to blow it for good in the fourth and the fifth innings where he gave up two more runs on a home run and another on an RBI double. Plutko will now take a 4.53 ERA and a 58:18 K:BB ratio through 87.1 innings into his next start Friday in a crucial matchup against the Twins.

Plutko (6-3) earned the win Tuesday at Detroit after giving up one run on three hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out nine and walked two.

EDGE Analysis

Plutko recorded the first two outs of the sixth inning, but he was pulled at 107 pitches after allowing a single. The 27-year-old has a 4.34 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 56:14 K:BB through 83 innings and will next pitch Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Plutko will make his next start Tuesday against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Plutko (5-3) picked up the win against the Yankees on Thursday, giving up three earned runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one as the Indians bagged a 19-5 victory.

EDGE Analysis

The 27-year-old did his part in a game where he was given plenty of run support, tossing his fifth quality start of the season en route to his fifth win. Plutko now sports a 4.67 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and a 42:11 K:BB across 71.1 innings.

Plutko (4-3) took the loss Saturday as Cleveland fell 4-1 to the Twins, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings while striking out three.

Max Kepler and Marwin Gonzalez both took him deep, and with the Cleveland offense unable to solve Jake Odorizzi, that was one mistake too many for Plutko. The right-hander will carry a 4.68 ERA and 39:10 K:BB through 65.1 innings into his next start Thursday, on the road against the Yankees.

The only run Plutko gave up came on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Plutko has been inconsistent since earning his last victory on June 14 before Saturday, but in his last three starts, he owns a 2.62 ERA. Overall, Plutko has earned four wins in 11 outings with a 4.55 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 36 strikeouts in 59.1 innings this season. He will pitch again in a pivotal series at the Twins on Thursday.

Pitching against the Royals for the second time in less than a week, Plutko was less effective this time out, scattering seven hits while equalling a season high by walking two batters. As in the previous outing, he was victimized by a first-inning home run off the bat of Hunter Dozier, this one coming with a man aboard to give the Royals an early lead. Despite a decent 1.15 WHIP on the season, Plutko now sports a 4.83 ERA due in large part to his inability to keep the ball in the park, serving up 15 home runs in only 54 innings.
