Toro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
With southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the mound for the Phillies, the switch-hitting Toro will give way at first base to the right-handed-hitting Romy Gonzalez, who has been one of the Red Sox's top performing hitters versus lefties this season. Toro and Gonzalez are likely to operate in a quasi-platoon at first base for the foreseeable future, unless Boston brings in an upgrade at the position prior to the July 31 trade deadline.

Toro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Toro started the first two games coming out of the All-Star break and went 3-for-7 to snap a stretch of 13 at-bats without a hit. Romy Gonzalez will step in at first base and bat ninth in the series finale versus Chicago.

Toro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Romy Gonzalez will step in at first base for Boston while Toro heads to the bench after starting each of the last three contests. He's gone 0-for-13 over his last four contests to bring his batting average down to .271, and it wouldn't be surprising if he began to lose out on at-bats to the hot-hitting Gonzalez coming out of the All-Star break. Over his last 10 games, Gonzalez is slashing .436/.442/.897 with 10 extra-base hits, 12 RBI and 11 runs.

Toro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Toro will head to the bench for the first time since June 29, ending a stretch of eight consecutive starts during which he went 9-for-31 (.290 average) with a 4:4 BB:K. Romy Gonzalez will get the nod at first base Wednesday, but Toro still appears to be viewed as the Red Sox's preferred option at the position.

Toro went 2-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Toro scuffled during the middle of June, going 8-for-46 (.174) across 14 games, but has turned it around. He's 10-for-27 (.370) with six walks and four RBI over the last eight contests. Toro maintains a hold as the primary starter at first base for now.

Toro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Toro started the first two games of the series and will take a seat Sunday after going 2-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs in Saturday's contest. The 28-year-old was slumping at the plate prior to that performance with a .174/.224/.261 slash line in his previous 14 games. Romy Gonzalez is stepping in at first base.

Toro went 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 15-1 win over Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Toro was one of eight members of the starting lineup to record multiple hits and one of five with multiple RBI in a stat-padding day at Fenway Park. The stolen base was his first of the year. He's been scuffling with a .176 batting average over the previous 15 games, but with an unsettled situation at first base and Alex Bregman (quadriceps) and Marcelo Mayer (bereavement) currently unavailable for duty at third base, there's still paths to playing time for Toro despite the offensive downturn.

Toro went 0-for-4 in Friday's 9-0 loss to Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Toro was a nice story earlier this month, but the corner infielder has been in a prolonged slump. After Friday's 0-fer, he's batting .138 (4-for-29) with one extra-base hit and zero RBI over the last nine games. He and Romy Gonzalez continue to serve as a band-aid at first base, but with Kristian Campbell getting starts at first base for Triple-A Worcester, a better option could emerge soon.

Toro is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Toro is out of the lineup for a second straight day after starting the previous eight and 21 of the last 22 tilts. The Red Sox are facing a lefty (Yusei Kikuchi) for the second consecutive contest, and the switch-hitting Toro has been much better versus righties (.831 OPS, five home runs) than lefties (.679 OPS, zero home runs) this season. Romy Gonzalez and Nate Eaton will handle first base and third base, respectively.

Tue 6/17/25 9:02 AM

Toro went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Monday's 2-0 win over Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
Toro's two-out single in the third inning drove in Boston's second run. He's recently moved up the batting order against right-handers -- Toro hit third against the three previous righties faced -- and batted second Monday, the spot that had belonged to Rafael Devers for much of the season. He'll continue to hold the strong side of a platoon at first base and could get starts at third base when Red Sox manager Alex Cora doesn't want to expose Marcelo Mayer to a southpaw. Toro is batting .317/.345/.538 with five home runs, eight doubles, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored over 30 games.
