Aaron Hill was scratched from Saturday's game with flu-like symptons. The illness shouldn't jeopardize his status for the regular season. The Diamondbacks will likely keep him isolated so that the flu doesn't spread to other parts of the clubhouse.

Diamondbacks signed 2B Aaron Hill to a two-year, $11 million contract. The D-Backs declined Hill's $8 million options for 2012 and 2013 last month, but reached an agreement on a new contract over the weekend. The 29-year-old second baseman enjoyed success after being acquired from the Blue Jays in August, batting .315/.386/.492 with two homers, 16 RBI and an .878 OPS over 142 plate appearances. The D-Backs are clearly hoping the small sample is a sign of things to come.

The Diamondbacks and Aaron Hill have agreed to a two-year contract worth a little more than $10 million, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Sounds like a reasonable deal for both sides. The Diamondbacks declined Hill's $8 million options for 2012 and 2013 after the season. The 29-year-old second baseman enjoyed success after being acquired from the Blue Jays in August, batting .315/.386/.492 with two homers, 16 RBI and an .878 OPS over 142 plate appearances. Hill was an All-Star in 2009, when he posted an .829 OPS in 734 plate appearances. He's fallen back to earth with OPS' of .665 and .655 the last two years, but Arizona hopes his production spike at the end of 2011 is a harbinger for things to come.

Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com reports that the Diamondbacks have a multi-year offer on the table for Aaron Hill and would like an answer from him by Monday. The D'Backs have already re-upped with infielders John McDonald and Willie Bloomquist, but they want to retain Hill, as well. If Hill does decide to re-sign, Arizona would then focus their attention on adding starting pitching. The 29-year-old second baseman batted .315/.386/.492 over 33 games with the Snakes after being acquired from the Blue Jays in August.

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks have submitted a contract offer to free agent second baseman Aaron Hill. Don't expect a quick resolution. The offer includes an unspecified deadline and the club expects Hill to wait as long as possible to decide. The Diamondbacks declined Hill's $8 million options for 2012 and 2013 last week. Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said that while he is interested in retaining Aaron Hill, he wouldn't necessarily be willing to give him a multi-year contract. Towers spoke to Hill's agent this past week and expects to talk to him again this week. The D'Backs are not expected to exercise his $8 million option for 2012. "No numbers were really exchanged," Towers said. "Just that we had interest in him; I think he had interest in our place. We talked more term than actual dollars. We'll probably talk again next week." When asked if he'd be willing to go multiple years with Hill, Towers responded, "Not necessarily. I don't really want to get into where we're at, but I don't want to get too crazy about six weeks (of production). There's a reason they moved him and a reason we moved Kelly (Johnson)."

Per ESPN's Buster Olney, the Diamondbacks could shift Ryan Roberts to second base and perhaps join the "parade of teams" expected to ask the Mets about the availability of David Wright. Arizona has expressed interest in keeping Aaron Hill if the two sides can reach an agreement somewhere in the $4 million range, but Olney suggests that exploring alternative options remains a possibility. Hill played well after coming over in a trade from the Blue Jay, posting a .315 AVG and .386 on-base percentage in 33 games. The Diamondbacks are also expected to pick up the option on shortstop Willie Bloomquist as Stephen Drew recovers from a fractured ankle sustained back in July.
