Matteau was demoted back to AHL Chicago on Saturday, Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau has a few stints at the top level under his belt at a young age, but the 24-year-old has yet to secure a full-time gig. While there is still time for him to develop, the big-bodied forward may never be anything more than a physical presence when he takes the ice in the NHL.

Matteau was recalled from AHL Chicago on Monday, Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau played five games with the Golden Knights earlier this year, picking up one assist and eight shots on goal. The 23-year-old was a first-round pick in 2012, but has yet to stick in the NHL. With Vegas dealing with injuries, Matteau may get a little playing time, but likely not enough to make a fantasy impact.

Matteau was assigned to AHL Chicago on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Golden Knights used a waiver claim to pry Ryan Carptenter from the Sharks, and evidently Vegas feels he would be an immediate upgrade over Matteau, who was originally selected by the Devils with a first-round (29th overall) pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. This is probably for the better, as Matteau has only averaged 8:24 of ice time with the expansion club this season and he'd otherwise have a hard time refining his game playing so sparingly.

Matteau was called up from AHL Chicago on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau has posted five points in 19 games thus far for AHL Chicago, but hasn't played an NHL game since 2015-16 with New Jersey. The 23-year-old has a big frame and a strong shot, but will likely be used as an emergency forward while David Perron (upper body) rehabs his injury.

The Golden Knights placed Matteau on waivers Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau hasn't appeared in an NHL contest since the 2015-16 campaign, so this move doesn't come as much of a surprise. However, the 23-year-old winger was a first-round selection in 2012, so there's still a chance he could develop into a serviceable NHL player with some more seasoning in the AHL.

Matteau signed a one-year deal with the Golden Knights on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Vegas is rolling the dice on a 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward who spent all of last season honing his craft with the St. John's IceCaps of the AHL. In 67 games for Montreal's minor-league affiliate, Matteau produced 25 points and a whopping 122 PIM. Remember, this is a guy the Devils had originally chosen with a first-round (29th overall) pick in the 2012 draft, so there may be plenty of untapped potential for the Golden Knights and fantasy owners alike.

Matteau wasn't extended a qualifying offer from the Canadiens and will become an unrestricted free agent, Renaud Lavoi of the Montreal Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau was acquired by the Canadiens in Febraury of 2016 in a trade with the Jets, but failed to get any ice time with the big club this past season. He'll look to secure a contract elsewhere prior to training camp now that he's headed to free agency, but he's not a lock to start the season at the NHL level, which will likely keep him off the radar in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Matteau was wavied by the Canadiens on Monday in order to assign him to AHL St. John's.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau, if he clears waivers, will join the IceCaps for their training camp. The 22-year-old made 32 appearances in the majors last season between New Jersey and Montreal, but only managed to notch one goal and one assist while averaging 10:05 in ice time per night. It seems likely the winger will spend the bulk of the 2016-17 campaign fine tuning his game in the minors, which means fantasy owners may want to look for other discount fantasy options.

Matteau had his best game since being acquired by Montreal on Tuesday, administering six hits in 12:45 of ice time in a 4-3 win over the Ducks.
EDGE Analysis
A former first-round draft pick in 2012, Matteau has not made a mark in the NHL -- just six points and minus-13 in 52 career games over three-plus seasons. His unremarkable play continued when he was acquired by Montreal until Wednesday's physical effort against the rugged Ducks. The 22-year-old is playing for a spot on next season's team and, frankly, needs to do more than he has in his first eight games as a Canadien -- more hustle, more getting to the net -- to be something more than another forward on the American Hockey League's St. John's IceCaps.

Matteau (lower body) will play Tuesday against the Panthers, Dave Peters of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matteau is expected to slot back into a bottom-six role Tuesday against Florida, skating alongside Michael McCarron and Lucas Lessio on the Canadiens' third line. The former first-round pick has very little to offer in terms of fantasy value, as he's tallied just two points (one goal, one assist) in 25 games this season.
