Clowe (concussion) will be forced to retire due to risks stemming from his concussion history, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was already talk that Clowe's career was over, but this confirms it and clears up what will happen going forward with the winger. Gulitti reports that Clowe will stay on IR or LTIR, depending on the Devils' salary cap situation. This will close out a 10-year, 491-game career with time spent on the Sharks, Rangers, and Devils.

General manager Lou Lamoriello acknowledged Monday that Clowe (concussion) is unlikely to play again, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. "All indications are it's going to be very difficult for him to play the game again," Lamoriello said. Clowe was diagnosed with his fourth concussion in a year and a half when he took a hit to the head Nov. 6 against the Blues, costing him the remainder of the season. The 32-year-old hasn't resumed skating while he continues to await medical clearance that will probably never come. He still has three years remaining on the five-year, $24.25 million contract he inked with the Devils in the summer of 2013.

General manager Lou Lamoriello announced Friday that Clowe (concussion) wouldn't play with the Devils again this season, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.Clowe joined the Devils for their road trip to Chicago on Friday, but only because the coaching staff thought the team could use another veteran voice in the locker room. It's unclear what the future might hold for Clowe, who hasn't played since Nov. 6 due to the concussion and has endured multiple head injuries over his career. The Devils will wait and see how he progresses in his recovery over the summer before determining if he'll be ready to play in 2015-16. After this season concludes, Clowe will still have two years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $4.85 million.

Clowe (concussion) is traveling on the Devils' current road trip, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports. It's unclear whether this has any significance, as Clowe has not played in a game since Nov. 6, and it was last reported that he may miss the rest of the season. His ability to travel with the team does not necessarily make him any closer to playing in games.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said Thursday that it's "very vague at this point" if Clowe will be able to play again this season, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Clowe has been sidelined since Nov. 8 with a concussion, the fourth he's sustained in less than a year and a half. He's been able to work out on the ice in recent weeks and has reported some improvement, but because of his extensive history of head injuries, it's unclear if doctors will be willing to clear him for a return to action. If Clowe fails to return this season, it's possible that his career could come to a premature end due to concerns about his long-term health.

Coach Peter DeBoer said Clowe "is out. Maybe it looks long-term," Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger reports. Clowe has suffered multiple concussions over the course of his career, and it appears they are beginning to catch up with him. The latest is his fourth in the past two years, and his coach's suggestion that he could be out for an extended period of time doesn't bode well for his prospects. The team will likely be very careful handling his recovery and return, which looks like it could be a ways off.

Clowe (head) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, retroactive to Nov. 6. The Devils haven't revealed the results from the test that were ran on Clowe after he sustained a head injury last Thursday, but it seems more likely than not that the winger is dealing with a concussion. If that's the case, it would mark the fourth concussion in less than two years for Clowe, perhaps making him highly susceptible to a lengthy absence. Martin Havlat was activated from injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Clowe (head) didn't practice with the team Sunday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Clowe left Thursday's game early after getting hit in the head, and the report suggests he may have suffered a concussion. His absence from Sunday's practice indicates that his status for Monday's game against the Bruins remains unclear, and the team may need to make a move if neither he, Adam Henrique (lower body) nor Michael Cammalleri are able to play Monday.

Clowe (head) will miss Friday's game against the Red Wings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Clowe left Thursday's game in the first period and didn't return after reportedly taking a stick to the nose and chin and getting hit in the head, according to GM Lou Lamrieollo. He will miss Friday's contest at a minimum, though his status moving forward still appears to be cloudy.
