Selected by Dallas with the 56th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, the blueliner logged 592 NHL games for the Stars, Flyers, Coyotes and Flames in which he recorded 13 goals, 73 assists and 314 PIM.

Grossman was placed on waivers Saturday for the purpose of terminating his contract, Elliotte Friedman of HNIC reports.

Friedman speculates that Grossman could be exploring the idea of playing overseas. This news isn't likely to cause a stir in fantasy circles as Grossman only played in four games with Calgary and struggled in a bottom-six role, going scoreless with a minus-4 rating.

Grossmann was assigned to AHL Stockton on Wednesday.

Grossmann went unclaimed through his waiver period and will now head to the Flames' minor league affiliate on assignment. The 31-year-old blueliner recorded a minus-4 rating over three games played for the big club and will likely only be recalled if the team is in need of back end depth.

If he clears waivers, the blueliner will likely be reassigned to AHL Tucson where he can taken on a mentorship role for the organization.

Grossman has only suited up for two of the Flames' 11 games so far this season, failing to register a point.

This isn't much of a surprise, as Grossman joined the Flames on a tryout contract and signed a one-year deal at the tail end of training camp. He's been a healthy scratch as their seventh defenseman most nights and won't likely make any fantasy waves this season, as the 11th-year NHLer has only managed 35 points over his last three campaigns combined.

At six-foot-four, 230 pounds, the rearguard displays good puck-handling for a guy his size and is trusted on the ice as evidence by his average 17-plus minutes of ice time over his NHL tenure. If he gets signed to a long-term contract, he figures to find his role somewhere behind veteran blueliners T.J. Brodie and Mark Giordano.

Grossman (personal) will be in the lineup for the season finale Saturday night against host San Jose.

Grossman had been with his family to welcome a child into the world. The Swedish veteran is a tank on the ice at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, providing his team with a shutdown presence on the back end. Still, he can largely be ignored in fantasy circles since he has just seven points in 57 games.

With the team out of the playoff race and just a few games remaining, it's possible the veteran blueliner will skip the remainder of the season. However, we will update his status again if he rejoins the team and is set to play again. Klas Dahlbeck will likely replace him in the lineup in the meantime.

Contrary to a prior report, Grossmann (illness) will play Tuesday against the Jets.
