A native of Milwaukee, the move to join the Wild will keep Stafford closer to home, in addition to providing a depth scoring option for the club that can round out the bottom six assuming he can land a permanent deal.

Stafford was held scoreless in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Florida, finishing the season with five goals and 13 points in 57 appearances.

A 33-year-old unrestricted free agent, Stafford could have a hard time finding suitors this offseason. His point totals have dropped from 38 to 21 to 15 to 13 over the past four seasons.

Stafford failed to mark the scoresheet during Friday's 5-4 win in Minnesota, pushing his point drought to five games.

His offensive ineptitude extends beyond this most recent drought, as Stafford has just one measly assist in his last 12 games. At 33 years of age, it's clear Stafford's best days are behind him.

Stafford's return to action will bolster the Devils' depth up front, but it won't mean much to fantasy owners, as he's only totaled 15 points in 61 appearances over the past two seasons. The 33-year-old winger is expected to slot into a bottom-six role for Saturday's matchup with the Islanders.

Stafford (upper body) isn't in the projected lineup for Thursday's game against Detroit.

Stafford's absence comes as no surprise, as he's expected to be sidelined for awhile with an upper-body injury. Either way, there's no reason for fantasy owners to keep tabs on the veteran forward's availability, as he doesn't have enough offensive upside to be considered a viable option in any format.

Stafford has already reached the seven-day mark from the time of his placement on injured reserve, so it's possible the winger is ready to hit the ground running versus the Red Wings on Thursday. Even if healthy, the veteran winger could struggle for regular minutes considering it took an injury to Jesper Bratt (jaw) to convince the club to offer him a contract just before the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
