Bryce Salvador won't play Saturday because of an upper-body injury. He didn't travel with his teammates to Raleigh to play against the Hurricanes, so Adam Larsson will replace the Devils captain in the lineup. Coach Pete DeBoer said that Salvador may be ready to play Sunday against Winnipeg.

Bryce Salvador played in his 700th career game on Sunday. Salvador doesn't do much offensively, but he's the Devils' captain and a big part of their defense. He's averaging 22:08 minutes a game, which is second only to Ilya Kovalchuk on New Jersey.

Bryce Salvador has been selected as the New Jersey Devils' captain. Salvador is replacing Zach Parise, who left the team as an unrestricted free agent. Salvador has spent parts of four seasons with the Devils going into the shortened campaign and he's signed through 2014-15. He's a solid defenseman, but his fantasy value is limited at best.

Bryce Salvador could be named the new captain of the New Jersey Devils soon. Coach Pete DeBoer said he is close to making a decision and Patrik Elias believes it will be Salvador. "I have a sense of who will be the captain. I would think Sal. He's very well-liked. Probably a couple of guys here don't like me. You can put that in," he added with a laugh. Elias served as captain of the team 2006-07, but he had his "C" taken away by former coach Brent Sutter and the team's captain from last year was Zach Parise, who left for the Minnesota Wild in the offseason.

Bryce Salvador wants to get the right deal in place rather than go for a quick solution in labor negotiations with the league. "The way I look at it is I'm focusing more on having the right deal, not so much on how many games we'll be able to play," said the New Jersey defenseman. "We need the right deal so this doesn't happen every five or six years. That's what the players are striving for. We just have to get it right." Salvador also reiterated that he doesn't plan to play in Europe during the lockout.

Bryce Salvador is hopeful that the lockout won't last very long. "I think I'm optimistic from a player standpoint because everyone is educated this time," said the Devils defenseman. "All the decisions that are being made are open. So, I'm more optimistic it will be a shorter stoppage than a longer one because we're educated." Salvador doesn't intend to play anywhere during the lockout. He will remain in New Jersey with his family.

The New Jersey Devils re-signed defenseman Bryce Salvador to a three-year, $9.5 million contract. That $3.167 million annual average value only represents a small increase from his previous cap hit of $2.9 million, so the Devils didn't go overboard in rewarding what might be a once-in-a-lifetime playoff run. Salvador had 14 points in 24 playoff games in 2011 after only having nine points in the regular season. That kind of output might get him on some fantasy owners' radars, but if you make a gamble on him, it's best for him to be on the very bottom of your defense corps - if that.

Bryce Salvador is interested in staying with New Jersey, but he thinks Zach Parise and Martin Brodeur are the Devils' priorities. All three players are eligible to become unrestricted free agents on July 1. "I think I'm third in line," Salvador said. "We'll see what happens with Zach and Marty first. There's interest from both us and them, but there's other things they have to figure out first. So, we'll just kind of see how it plays out. It's going to be an interesting next couple of days." Salvador had 106 hits and 107 blocked shots in 82 games in 2011-12.

The New Jersey Devils are interested in re-signing defenseman Bryce Salvador. However, there have been no contract negotiations between the two sides. Salvador and his agent, Carlos Sosa, understand that Devils GM Lou Lamoriello is busy with more urgent matters as free agency approaches, but they expect something can be worked out fairly quickly when talks begin. Salvador can listen to other offers on July 1 though as an unrestricted free agent.

Bryce Salvador understands that the Devils have to try to get pending UFAs Zach Parise and Martin Brodeur under contract before they can tackle his situation. The veteran defenseman said he believes he can still play another two or three more years after playing in every game during the regular season and 24 playoff contests in 2011-12. "My goal coming off the injury was just to reestablish myself," said Salvador referring to the concussion that forced him to miss the entire 2010-11 campaign. "Playing the 100-plus games showed me I'm back and I can play." He wasn't sure if New Jersey would re-sign him, but his confidence and leadership capabilities should land him a deal somewhere if the Devils don't decide to bring him back.
