Loktionov was released from his PTO with the Kings on Wednesday, Jon Rosen of Fox Sports West reports.
EDGE Analysis
Originally the Kings' 2008 fifth-round (123rd overall) draft choice, Loktionov has appeared in 155 NHL games between the Kings, Devils and Hurricanes, adding a mere 48 points (22 goals, 26 assists) and 22 PIM. His failing to reunite with the team that drafted him makes us wonder whether he'll go through the effort of finding work elsewhere at hockey's highest level. Besides, he hasn't played in the NHL since 2013-14 with the Hurricanes and the last three has spent in the comforts of his native country with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv of Russia's KHL.

Loktionov will sign with Yaroslavl of the KHL, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports. After undergoing shoulder surgery in May, Loktionov noticed a cool market in free agency this summer, never even earning a training camp invite with an NHL team. Though the 24-year-old boasts 155 games of experience, he's never been much more than a third-pairing player during stints with the Kings, Devils and Hurricanes. In returning to Russia, he'll look to demonstrate he's healthy in an effort to earn an NHL contract next season.

Andrei Loktionov won't get a qualifying offer from the Hurricanes. Along with Loktionov, Drayson Bowman, Aaron Palushaj, Kellan Tochkin and defenseman Tommi Kivisto will be allowed to test unrestricted free agency as well.

Andrei Loktionov will have shoulder surgery for an injury sustained during the World Championship. It's not clear how long Loktionov will be sidelined for, but given that he's a restricted free agent, this could prove to be a costly injury for him. He had seven goals and 22 points in 68 games in 2013-14.

Andrei Loktionov (shoulder) will visit with a specialist in Switzerland shortly. There's no prognosis on his shoulder injury, but according to Sport-Express' Slava Malamud "it's bad." Loktionov was injured while playing for Russia at the World Hockey Championship. Early projections believe he could be sidelined for several weeks, but all we know right now is that he is out for the rest of the tournament.

Andrei Loktionov has adapted nicely to life with the Carolina Hurricanes. New Jersey traded Loktionov to Carolina on March 5. "It's a nice team with nice guys," he said. "It's easy to be here. The guys support me. It makes it easy to just go play hockey and not worry about things." Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller is happy with what Loktionov has brought to the table as a two-way player and also likes the 23-year-old forward's attitude. Loktionov has two goals and four points in 10 games since the trade.
