Andrei Loktionov turned down a lot of money to play in the NHL. Loktionov was reportedly being offered as much as $3 million to spend the 2013-14 campaign in the KHL, but he instead inked a one-year, $725,000 contract with the Devils. "My agent talked to them, but I was not ready to go back," Loktionov said. "I am a young guy and this is the best league in the world. It's not about the money for a young guy. I'm happy to be playing here, against the good players." Loktionov will be a restricted free agent this summer, so the Hurricanes aren't likely to face a lot of pressure from their NHL competitors when it comes time to re-sign Loktionov, but they might face competition from the KHL. He has four goals and 12 points in 48 games this season.

Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford suggested that newly acquired Andrei Loktionov might get power-play ice time. Carolina got Loktionov from the New Jersey Devils as part of the Tuomo Ruutu trade. Loktionov was averaging just 33 seconds of power-play playing time with New Jersey and has 12 points in 48 games. We wouldn't pick up Loktionov in standard leagues, even if this trade might lead to a mild boost in production.

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Andrei Loktionov and a conditional 2017 third-round pick from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Tuomo Ruutu. Loktionov has four goals and 12 points in 48 games this season. He didn't have any fantasy value in standard leagues before the trade and we don't expect the move to Carolina to change that.

Andrei Loktionov was naturally disappointed with Russia's finish in the 2014 Winter Games. "It's pretty sad," Loktionov said. "It happened way too many times the last Olympics. At Vancouver, (Russia finished) seventh and right now it's sixth, seventh. There's a lot of star players and it seems they can't play (with) each other. Too many leaders." Most of the top-tier teams have plenty of star players and guys that are used to being leaders, so that's not a concern unique to the Russians. Unlike Canada and the United States, Russia did split their roster between the NHL and KHL, so they not only had guys not used to playing with each other, but also not even used to playing the same type of game. Of course, even that is not a great excuse because the Finnish team that eliminated them didn't exclusively feature NHL players either.

Andrei Loktionov participated on the Devils' top line on Tuesday. Loktionov skated alongside Jaromir Jagr and Dainius Zubrus. He only has nine points and 10 penalty minutes in 42 games, so we're not particularly excited by this opportunity. Still, it will be worth keeping an eye on him.

Andrei Loktionov was a healthy scratch on Saturday as the Devils went with seven defensemen in their lineup. He was joined in the press box by Cam Janssens. Loktionov has sat out the last two games. He has only three goals and eight points in 38 games this season so he should not be on your fantasy radar at this time.
