The Fantasy Barometer - Week 13 fantasysharks.com Fri 11/28/14 9:06 AM

After annihilating Michael Crabtree's soul on the biggest stage possible, I loved Richard Sherman. Then after the constant overexposure and overpaid contract, I hated him. Now, after the brilliant press conference with cardboard Doug Baldwin, I love him all over again. All is forgiven. Sorry, I don't have an interesting intro ready for you this week, so let's get right to it! Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving. Okay, now we can start. Quarterbacks Philip Rivers (Week 12 vs. St. Louis: 291 Yards, 1 TD, 1 INT): In his last three games, Rivers has 207 yards per contest, 2 touchdowns, and 5 turnovers. He's still in the top-12 among QBs in total points scored thanks to his sparkling first six weeks of the season, but he's rapidly falling. I think some sort of injury is clearly significantly compromising his effectiveness. As has been the case for a while, Rivers continues to be a physical liability. On paper, he's a decent start this week against a soft Ravens pass defense that he has historically done well against, but I would prefer to look elsewhere. He just can't be trusted right now. Bench Eli Manning (Week 12 vs. Dallas: 338 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT): What is it with Eli's receiving targets and having a short shelf life? Not a one of Plaxico Burress, Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, or Victor Cruz has managed to have more than three seasons of fantasy relevance in a Giants uniform. Here's hoping the incredible Odell Beckham Jr. can last longer. But for the time being, Beckham is in the process of reviving his quarterback's fantasy value. Eli is now posting low-end QB1 numbers. There's an element of risk in actually using him, as evidenced by the 5-interception debacle in Week 11, but he's a strong play in 2-QB leagues and not a terrible matchup play in 12-man 1-QB leagues. In Weeks 15 and 16, the Giants face Washington and the Rams, who are allowing the 3rd and 10th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. If you're going to the playoffs and you've got an unreliable starter (Cam, Kaepernick, Rivers, etc.), Eli is not a terrible alternative. U sable Matchup Play Running Backs Latavius Murray (Week 12 vs. Kansas City: 112 yards, 2 TDs): Murray did all of that damage with only four carries before leaving the game with a concussion. He actually scored more fantasy points with those four carries than Andre Johnson has in his last five games combined. Seriously. That's, uh, that's something. He's questionable to play this week against a stout Rams front, but I'm still ...

Risers and Fallers - Week 11 fantasysharks.com Sat 11/15/14 11:00 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans - Martavis Bryant The Steelers' rookie wide receiver has been wildly productive since becoming the weekly WR2 starter opposite of Antonio Brown. While a lot of that is directly contributed to the two weeks of historic play from Ben Roethlisberger, Bryant was still able to have a big game against the Jets last week when the wheels completely fell off for the Steelers offense. That's a solid indication that Bryant can be trusted on a weekly basis no matter the condition of the offense as a whole. If Bryant can keep this hot streak rolling and remain Roethlisberger's favorite red zone target, Bryant could find himself ranked among the top 20 wide receivers. Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns - Ryan Mallett The former college elite now has his first real crack as a NFL starter. After spending his first few years under the mentorship of Tom Brady and then waiting out the shelf life of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mallet has his first chance to earn his spot as a career starter in the league. OR, Mallett could come up short and be nothing more than a middling option that is nothing more than a run out the clock play as the Texans look to plan for 2015. The surrounding cast is nothing to sneeze at with DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson on the outside so there is a chance that Mallett does well and doesn't relinquish the starter's roll for a long, long time. It all starts here as the saying goes, you never get a second chance at a first impression. Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers - Mark Sanchez Speaking of first impressions, the first start for Sanchez with the Eagles was nothing short of stellar. Sanchez looked poised, threw the ball well, moved up in the pocket, and found several different options for big gains. The numbers from last week would have been even more amazing if Brent Celek didn't knock his knee at the 6-inch line or if the Eagles' receivers hadn't dropped several easy catches. While everything is just ducky right now, this week it's a whole 'nother animal against the Packers in Green Bay. The Packers will be bringing heavy pressure with the home field advantage playing strongly in their favor. Sanchez has a much larger test this week but it comes with added opportunity. The Eagles will need to keep up with Aaron Rodgers and the elite Packers offense and the points are less likely to come from special teams and defense this week. There is really QB1 value potential on the line for Sanchez. San ...

2011 Week 13 Preview: Titans at Bills brunoboys.net Thu 12/1/11 9:15 PM

THE STORY: With apologies to Stevie Johnson, the Buffalo Bills appeared to have shot themselves in the foot in their latest effort of joining the AFC playoff picture. Leading the New York Jets in a crucial contest last week, Johnson's end zone celebration - when he mocked Plaxico Burress' shooting incident - backfired on Buffalo. Johnson was hit with a penalty and the inspired Jets rallied for the victory. The loss was the fourth straight for the Bills, whose playoff life is hanging by a thread as it prepares to face a desperate Tennessee squad on Sunday. The Titans finally got a vintage performance from Chris Johnson last week in a 23-17 win over Tampa Bay.

What Did We Learn - Week 7 Edition fantasysharks.com Tue 10/25/11 9:06 AM

Montario Hardesty will be part of a Browns timeshare. The Browns running game may have just become a timeshare. Madden 12 cover boy Peyton Hillis has been slowed by injuries, and his contract situation has apparently been somewhat of a distraction. The Browns turned to Hardesty this week with Hillis out, and Hardesty carried the ball 33 times for 95 yards. Is that a good yards per carry average? No. But it appears that the Browns brass was impressed enough to go timeshare upon Hillis' return. And with Hillis becoming a free agent after the season, they might as well see what they have in their young back. Matthew Stafford is coming back to Earth. The Falcons defense is currently ranked 26th in the league in passing defense. But Stafford was unable to do much. Despite the knee injury he suffered, and he's fine, he could only muster 183 yards on 15-32 passing. These are not the kind of numbers you look for in a franchise quarterback, especially at home. There may be someone out there willing to pay Week 4 money for Stafford, and it may be time to pounce. You know his injury history. This is now the latest he's ever been "healthy" in his NFL career, and he's already hobbled with ankle and knee injuries. Two words: walking boot. One more: trade? Plaxico Burress is once again a red zone target. Despite the time spent "away" from football, he didn't get any shorter. He's still a huge target with great hands. And it now appears that Mark Sanchez, who is still really overrated, will look for him near the end zone. He's still a target, but his fantasy value is way too reliant on touchdowns. Yesterday's stat line: Four catches, 25 yards, three touchdowns. His three touchdowns accounted for 10 yards. If someone is willing to consider him a top-20 receiver, sell. Josh Freeman is taking a step backwards. Last season, Freeman looked as if he was preparing to make the leap to stardom. He had the arm, the elusiveness, and, best of all, he seemed to thrive in pressure situations. This season, he seems lost at times, and hasn't been taking care of the ball. And in London on Sunday, he threw four interceptions, ultimately costing the Bucs a chance at a win. He was probably drafted as a borderline QB1 in your league, only he shouldn't be treated that way anymore. He's a backup and possible bye week fill-in, if the matchup is right, and if you can't find someone better... The Redskins rushing attack continues to baffle. Against the Eagles in Week 6, the Redskins struggled ...
