Even with Jordan Howard (knee) a bit banged up, Davis is a long shot to crack the 53-man roster in Chicago. He was released by the Steelers at the end of the preseason last year and never caught on with another team. Best known for running a 4.37 40-yard dash at 227 pounds back in 2013, the 26-year-old will need to make a strong impression on special teams to have any shot at sticking around.

Davis rushed seven times for 21 yards and hauled in one of two targets for nine yards in Saturday's 19-15 preseason loss to the Colts. He also returned three kickoffs for 61 yards.

Davis logged the second-most carries on the Steelers, checking in behind only Terrell Watson on the night. The veteran is slotted ahead of Watson on the depth chart, although the latter outperformed him Saturday. However, Davis' experience and ability to return kicks could be the deciding factor in the job battle, which likely comes down to next Thursday's exhibition finale against the Panthers.

Davis joins Pittsburgh after a season in which he was traded from the Chiefs to the Packers, then rejoined Kansas City after being waived by both Green Bay and the Jets. A third-round pick in 2013, Davis has long drawn intrigue for his combination of size and speed, but his career average of 3.2 yards on 250 carries tells the real story of his ability. Although DeAngelo Williams' status as a free agent leaves an opening behind Le'Veon Bell (groin) in the Steelers' high-powered offense, Davis' lack of recent production is something fantasy owners shouldn't overlook.

Davis finished the 2016 regular season out with six carries for nine yards in Sunday's game against the Chargers.

EDGE Analysis

Davis finished the campaign with just 18 total carries for 28 rushing yards between the Chiefs and Packers, but will likely be looking for a job elsewhere in the offseason due to his contract expiring. However, it's unlikely the fourth-season back will attain fantasy-relevance any time in the near future.

Davis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans, BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com reports.

Since rejoining the Chiefs after brief stints with the Packers and Jets this season, Davis will remain inactive for the third straight week. Unless the Chiefs lose either Spencer Ware or Charcandrick West to injury, it doesn't look as though Davis will have an opportunity to pick up snaps in Kansas City.

Davis carried the ball three times for 10 yards and caught a pass for seven yards in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Jaguars.

EDGE Analysis

Davis remains behind both Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware (concussion) on the depth chart, but with Jamaal Charles (knee) potentially done for the season and Ware ruled out Sunday, Davis served as the relief back for West. The Chiefs did very little on offense this week, but the fourth-year back is unlikely to make much impact beyond the 10 snaps he received Sunday unless the other options are unavailable.

Davis has endured quite an interesting season thus far, having bounced from Kansas City to the Packers, then to the Jets for just one day, and now back to the Chiefs. Expect West to see a bulk of the workload and fantasy value out of the Chiefs' backfield in Week 9, despite Davis' signing.

It looks like Davis will last all of one day in New York, as the Jets will be able to waive him and sign Spiller on Wednesday afternoon. Davis will become a free agent for the second time in three days if he clears waivers.

Davis was traded from Kansas City to Green Bay on Oct. 18, and then released by the Packers on Oct. 31. It's far from encouraging that he was cut by a team with almost nothing to speak of at his position, but the Jets apparently find Davis' athleticism intriguing enough to warrant a roster spot for the time being. This could be another short stint, as the team is seemingly pleased with its leading running back duo of Matt Forte and Bilal Powell. In all likelihood, Davis will need to fight for his roster spot from week to week.
