Despite being active for Sunday's win over San Diego, Davis failed to record a touch.
EDGE Analysis
Davis collected over 600 total yards in back-up duty just two years ago, but has now fallen behind both Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West in the pecking order. It wouldn't be a surprise if he begins wearing street clothes to games once Jamaal Charles returns from injury and he might not see much action between now and then either.

Davis will be in uniform for Sunday's season opener against the Chargers, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.
EDGE Analysis
Davis, who was previously reported to be on the trading block, is primarily expected to handle kick return duties Sunday. However, with starter Jamaal Charles (knee) doubtful, there's a chance he could see some spare snaps at running back behind Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware as well.

The Chiefs are shopping Knile Davis prior to the trade deadline, the Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kansas City showcased Davis' talent in Thursday's preseason finale against the Packers, with the fourth year back going for 58 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and adding a grab for seven yards. He starred in 2014 following Jamaal Charles' injury but fell out of favor in 2015. Davis could still make the Chiefs ' 53-man roster should he not be moved but it's unlikely he will attain much fantasy value in 2016 if he stays with his current club.

Davis carried the ball five times for just 14 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
Also notable is the fact that he didn't return kicks, with all signs now pointing to him missing the 53-man roster. Given the talent he's displayed in the past, it's possible another club will give him a shot if Davis indeed gets cut.

Davis is in danger of not making the final 53-man roster, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Once Jamal Charles (knee) returns to full health, Davis will assume the fourth spot on the Chiefs death chart, leaving him on the bubble of making the Week 1 roster. However the 24-year-old has value in the kick return game, as he totaled 799 kick return yards last season along with one touchdown in the AFC Wild Card win over the Texans. Davis, who totaled a career-worst 72 yards on the ground last season, could be an attractive pickup for another team should the Chiefs decide to part ways.

Davis, who's struggled in the past catching the ball out of the backfield, has improved in that area during the offseason, Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Davis caught a pass on a wheel route during practice that opened some eyes and special teams coach Dave Toub indicated that he remains the team's No. 1 kick returner despite the presence of De'Anthony Thomas and Tyreek Hill. The fourth-year back out of Arkansas has also worked as a cover guy on punt returns, something that could keep him on the 53-man roster as a fourth-string running back if he proves effective in that role.

The Chiefs "haven't been shy" about getting Davis first-team reps this offseason, the The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Davis seemingly fell from grace early on in the 2015 campaign. He had largely served as Jamaal Charles' backup since being drafted in the third round by the Chiefs in 2014, and was expected to handle the majority of the work out of the backfield for Kansas City when Charles went down with a knee injury in October. However, he was ultimately passed up by both Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware on the depth chart and relegated to a role on special teams returning kicks. Both West and Ware were signed to contract extensions this offseason, while Davis did not (with just one year left on his deal). Seemingly, Davis will enter training camp firmly behind each of Charles, West and Ware.

Davis requested a trade earlier this offseason, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Chiefs appear set at running back after Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West filled in capably for Jamaal Charles (torn ACL), who says he's ahead of schedule in his recovery. With Ware and West both agreeing to extensions Thursday, the Chiefs have all three running backs under contract through at least 2017, leaving Davis as the odd man out. Despite running a 4.37 40-yard dash at 227 pounds at the 2012 Scouting Combine, the 24-year-old Davis has averaged just 3.3 yards on 232 carries through three seasons. He won't fetch anything more than a late-round pick, and the Chiefs may ultimately just end up releasing him. If he does stick in Kansas City, it will likely be due to his strong track record as a kickoff return man.

Davis was limited to six special teams snaps in Sunday's regular season finale against the Raiders.
EDGE Analysis
A once rising backup, Davis dropped like a rock on the Chiefs depth chart this season, losing out on snaps to the likes of Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware following the season-ending injury to star running back Jamaal Charles in Week 5. While he's still under contract with the Chiefs through the 2016 campaign, Davis finished 2015 with just 28 caries for 72 yards and two grabs for 24 yards, and doesn't appear to be a large part of the team's plan for next season.

Davis dressed for Sunday's game gainst the Browns, but didn't take the field.
EDGE Analysis
Davis remains third on the totem pole for snaps behind Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, but the situation heading into Week 17 remains a bit unclear. With the Chiefs locked into the playoffs, there's a chance they will elect to rest starters at some point, potentially allowing Davis to see the field. However, the team will still be in contention to win the division, so it's also possible they roll with the starters, which would likely again result in little-to-no snaps for Davis. Either way, it seems as though Davis would see carries in relief if he plays at all, limiting his potential value in the final week of the regular season.
