This is a disappointing development for Jones, who pulled up during his first 40-yard dash attempt Friday. Jones won't participate in the 3-Cone Drill, The 20-Yard Shuttle, or the 60-Yard Shuttle, meaning his lone testing scores from the combine are a 4.66 40-yard dash and a 36.5-inch vertical jump.

Another report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport states that Jones has been battling a hamstring issue for the last few weeks but wanted to still run the 40-yard dash at the combine. Unfortunately, Jones' hamstring seemed to tense up about halfway through his first attempt, which resulted in him finishing with an unofficial time of 4.66. It's unclear at this stage if he'll participate in the remaining drills Friday, but even if he doesn't, Jones will still have a chance to put up a strong 40 time at USC's Pro Day.

Jones is forgoing his senior season at USC and will enter the 2018 NFL Draft, Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register reports.

After two years of being frustratingly underutilized in the USC backfield, Jones (6-0, 200) had a full-fledged breakout in 2017, taking 261 carries for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns over 13 games. Perhaps the most impressive part of Jones' 2017 was his ability to hold up to the dramatically increased workload; he missed one game with an ankle injury but was a true workhorse down the stretch. Jones' calling card is his speed, which he used to tear off 16 runs of 20-or-more yards in 2017. It is fair to wonder whether the durability he showed in college will translate to the NFL at his size, however. Certainly, many backs at that stature, ranging from Chris Johnson to Jamaal Charles and beyond, have had highly successful NFL careers, but Jones isn't quite in that tier as a prospect. Furthermore, Jones doesn't have the same level of pass-catching ability that enabled those other speedy backs to lock down three-down roles for their respective teams as he never caught more than 14 passes in any season at USC. Jones likely enters the pre-draft process as a fringe Day 2 prospect in what is a loaded running back class.

The Colts could be looking for someone to act as a No. 4 wideout while LaVon Brazill serves his four-game suspension.

This move would seem to improve veteran Molasses Michael Jenkins' chances of making the final 53-man roster.

Still only 25, Jones should compete for a spot on the outside, but has never been particularly productive. He also has a long injury history, missing a combined 12 games the past two seasons. He's in a good position to crack New England's 53-man roster, but will need a strong camp. He's unlikely to come onto the fantasy radar.
