The Bills had three wide receivers on the field on a league-leading 77 percent of their snaps last season. The Colts were next closest at 63 percent. As Rotoworld's Mike Clay notes below, Buffalo also led the NFL in four-wide sets (32 percent). As appealing as that might make Buffalo wide receivers sound, it's an underwhelming group behind Steve Johnson. Derek Hagan, Donald Jones, and David Nelson figure to man the two, three, and four slots early on, but watch for third-round pick T.J. Graham to emerge during the season.

Bills WR Donald Jones has seen the majority of his reps in the slot this offseason. Interesting. Jones has the inside track on the No. 2 job, but the Bills are moving him the slot with Derek Hagan as the outside "Z" receiver in three-wide sets. "It's just how we're switching it up," said Johnson. "We're attacking them in so many different ways." It's not clear yet what role David Nelson, last year's slot receiver, will play.

Coach Chan Gailey confirmed Monday that Donald Jones is the frontrunner to open the season as the Bills' No. 2 receiver. Gailey conceded nothing is final before camp, but Jones has the experience edge on Marcus Easley and rookie T.J. Graham at X receiver. Derek Hagan is working behind Stevie Johnson at Z. In seven starts last year, Jones managed just 23 catches for 231 yards and one score. It's not a great fantasy position.

Donald Jones is expected to keep his starting job opposite Stevie Johnson if the Bills don't draft or sign an upgrade. As one of the weaker No. 2 receivers in the NFL, Jones is hardly entrenched. While the Bills remain high on size/speed prospect Marcus Easley, beat writer Joe Buscaglia believes it's a "stretch" to expect him to compete for the starting job after missing two seasons due to injuries. David Nelson will work out of the slot again this season.

The Bills' average of 9.7 yards per reception is the lowest in the league from the "Z" position. Donald Jones has started seven games at flanker, C.J. Spiller three, and Brad Smith five. The lack of production opposite Stevie Johnson has been a significant factor in Ryan Fitzpatrick's decline the past two months. Even if the Bills remain high on Jones, it should be a priority to find an upgrade in 2012.

Donald Jones (ankle) only has an "outside chance" at playing again this season, according to coach Chan Gailey. Jones' latest left ankle injury is worse than originally thought. He's likely headed for injured reserve, leaving the Bills extremely thin at wide receiver once again. Brad Smith and Naaman Roosevelt will likely share the No. 3 receiver role behind starters Stevie Johnson and David Nelson.

Bills coach Chan Gailey admitted at his Monday press conference that injured reserve is a possibility for Donald Jones (ankle). Jones is forecasted to miss 3-6 weeks with his second major ankle sprain of the season, meaning that even in the best-case scenario he wouldn't be back before Week 15. With C.J. Spiller expected to return to running back this week, Naaman Roosevelt should see a big increase in snaps in Jones' absence.

Donald Jones (ankle) is expected to miss 3-6 weeks. Jones went down in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. It's his second major ankle sprain of the season and it's possible this one could land him on injured reserve. Look for C.J. Spiller to come on in the slot, kicking David Nelson out wide. Naaman Roosevelt will also get a bump in snaps.

Donald Jones left Sunday's game against the Dolphins in the second quarter with an apparent left ankle injury. Jones was in severe pain as trainers tended to him on the field. The cart eventually came out and Jones will not return.S Brad Smith left earlier with a rib injury, so the Bills are getting really thin at wideout. C.J. Spiller is going to get a lot of reps as a wideout the rest of the way.
