The pass-catching specialist would likely find a landing spot should he choose to continue his 10-year career, but opting for retirement at this point makes sense given his recent injury history.

The Ravens are releasing Woodhead in a move that will save $1.8 million, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

His marks of 6.1 yards per catch and 5.1 per target were far below his lofty standards as a pass-catching specialist, with the 33-year-old finally showing some signs of his age. The Ravens may be comfortable using Javorius Allen and/or Kenneth Dixon (knee, suspension) on passing downs, while Alex Collins figures to get most of the carries. Woodhead shouldn't have much trouble landing a new gig, but there's no guarantee he'll be a crucial part of the offense with his next team.

Allen and Dixon would both be candidates to take on Woodhead's passing-down snaps.

The veteran was acquired in the offseason with the idea of becoming the Ravens' next high-volume pass catcher out of the backfield. The early returns were promising as he caught his first three targets for 33 yards in the first half of the season opener against the Bengals before a hamstring injury knocked him out for eight games. Woodhead was moderately productive down the stretch, averaging 4.5 targets per game in the second half of the season, but Javorius Allen and even Alex Collins started to take passing-down snaps away from him. The Ravens are financially committed to Woodhead for two more seasons and quarterback Joe Flacco's penchant for checkdowns means that Woodhead should continue to see a fair amount of targets, but his complete lack of utility as a rusher coupled with his minimal touchdown upside render him as a PPR-only type of fantasy option.

Woodhead caught six of seven targets for 31 yards and gained one yard on his only carry in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Browns.

EDGE Analysis

Woodhead has been a useful part of the Baltimore offense, but he isn't getting a ton of volume and hasn't seen much work in the red zone. He's yet to reach 50 scrimmage yards in a contest, and a Week 16 matchup with the Colts would seem to favor Alex Collins and Javorius Allen over Woodhead, as the Ravens probably won't need to attempt too many throws.

Woodhead had four catches for 29 yards and added two carries for seven yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.

The Ravens ramped up Woodhead's usage as a pass catcher, targeting him five times after his two-target outing against the Lions. He responded with four grabs, which is one shy of his season high. However, Woodhead's usage as a runner has been limited since returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out eight games. He's seen a total of 10 carries in that four-game stretch and has been held to single-digit yardage in three of those contests. Woodhead is unlikely to see an uptick in carries with Alex Collins and Javorius Allen running well, but he figures to see steady work in the passing game the rest of the way.

It was a muted outing from Woodhead, who saw roughly the same amount of snaps as he did a week ago (22) but had his usage rate plummet. Woodhead had caught at least four passes in each of his previous two games but only garnered two targets against the Lions. Part of that can be attributed to Joe Flacco taking more shots down the field to his wide receivers rather than checking it down to his running backs like Woodhead. Flacco will likely revert to more check downs next week against Pittsburgh to keep the pass rush honest, so look for Woodhead to see more chances in Week 14.

Woodhead had four carries for 22 yards and caught all four of his targets for 23 yards in Monday's win over the Texans.

EDGE Analysis

In his second game back from IR, Woodhead was slightly more involved in the run game and it paid dividends as he averaged 5.5 yards per carry. Woodhead has also been involved in the passing game since returning, catching nine of 10 targets for 44 yards. His production as a runner will likely be unpredictable with Alex Collins and Javorious Allen still in the mix, but Woodhead's capability as a pass catcher is why Baltimore signed him, so look for him to continue seeing regular work out of the backfield.

Ravens offensive coordinator Marty Morhnhinweg said Woodhead won't have a snap count Monday against the Texans, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Woodhead didn't really appear to have any limitations in a 23-0 win over the Packers last week, but he ended up with only six touches (five catches) on 13 snaps due to the blowout nature of the contest. It's notable that he was targeted on more than one-third of his snaps, as similar usage could lead to some very productive days when the Ravens find themselves in more competitive contests. Monday's game won't necessarily qualify, as the Ravens are heavy favorites against a Houston team that's gone 1-3 with a minus-44 point differential in Tom Savage's four starts.

Woodhead (hamstring) caught five of six targets for 21 yards and took one carry for two yards in Sunday's 23-0 win over the Packers.

Woodhead returned from injured reserve and instantly replaced Javorius Allen as the Ravens' back of choice in passing situations. Allen entered the game as the team leader in carries, receptions and targets, but he finished with only three carries for eight yards and one catch for nine yards on one target. Alex Collins had 20 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown and also caught four of seven targets for 22 yards, though the split with Woodhead actually looked pretty even early in the game. With Baltimore leading by at least 13 points for the final 28 minutes, Woodhead didn't have much of a role in the second half. He should be a bit busier if the Texans are able to keep thing close in a Week 12 matchup on Monday Night Football.
