Spillman has been connected to an ongoing sexual assault investigation, the Dallas Morning News reports. The incident allegedly took place in Grapevine, located between Dallas and Fort Worth, so it likely took place after Spillman joined the Cowboys in September. There's no word yet on how he's involved, but given the bad press the NFL has gotten this year and Spillman's role as primarily a special teams player, the Cowboys likely won't hesitate to cut him loose if they feel the situation warrants it.

Beat writer Matt Barrows confirms the special teams ace needed hand surgery. Spillman played just 79 defensive snaps last season.

Things are great for him."

49ers re-signed S C.J. Spillman to a three-year, $6 million contract. The deal contains $1.8 million guaranteed. The Niners skipped over Spillman's restricted free agency to get him under contract through 2014.
